Making an OS 160 FX smoke
I am considering running smoke for this engine..is there a good smoke muffler available, and does the 160 produce good smoke or is it not worth it?

RE: Making an OS 160 FX smoke
I will be using a Stainless header with copper capillary tube silver brazed to it for a preheat coil. To inject the oil I will braze a 1" piece of crimped brass tube into a 6/32" nipple and then drill the tube radially. The holes to inject the oil into the muffler should be as small as possible, four #80 holes will be a good start. I will fill a tank with smoke oil, connect it to the pump, thru a very fine filter, attach it to the nipple, run the pump at full speed and adjust the holes to get two oz per minute of flow. The smoke oil needs to be filtered well to prevent the holes from plugging up.
I am going to be making an injector nozzle this weekend and will be able to tell you the quantity and size holes I will be using for my MegaSmoke pump. The idea behind the preheat high pump pressure and small injector holes is to get the droplets of oil as small as possible to help atomize the oil. I mount the pump in the cowl in case it leaks.
