Default Edge 540 weight

Is 28.5#'s to heavy for a 35% Edge 540? I just finished my OMP Edge and after balancing it came in at that weight. It took 2#'s of lead in the nose to balance it. Up front is a 3W-100 and cannister mufflers plus all the batteries. dmac

That seems like a lot of lead to balance with a 100 and cannisters. What is the wing chord at the tip and the root? Where did you end up for the balance point? Do you have servos in the tail for elevator and rudder?

28.5lbs. isn't the end of the world I have owned several 33% Edges one weighed 30lbs. and flew fine. Lighter is better but you can make do.

I agree with Michael, it will fly and fly fine. Lighter weight just simply gives you an UNREALISTIC (full scale) thrust to weight ratio.

Michael, The root is 24.5'', the tip is 12''. The CG is set at 5.75" back from the leading edge in close to the fuselage. At this point the plane sits perfectly level. The elevator servos are in the stabs and the rudder servos are mounted in the middle of the fuselage using a pull-pull setup. I've built the plane according to the directions with neither trying to make the plane lighter nor heavier. This is the first Edge that I've built and these wings seem to have the CG pretty far foward. Thanks, Dennis

The average wing chord is 18.25". Typically 25-30% of the wing chord is the CG location for these birds.

25% = 4.5"
30% = 5.5"

5.75" is about 31.5% of MAC.

Fly the model and decide there after if the CG suits your needs.

The best idea for achieving the desired CG is to move around the MOVABLE components, thus requiring as little ballast weight as possible. You might consider moving as much weight forward as possible by relocating the batteries and rudder servos forward. Where is the ignition battery located. Maintaining at least 6" separation between RX system and ignition system is a good rule of thumb.
