Revo 3.3 big block upgrade.
Hey guys, sorry for being the noob here, but I have a rather simple question...
What is the best/easiest big block engine install for the Revo 3.3?
I have owned my Revo 3.3 for quite a while now, but haven't really doven into competition. I am not terribly concerned with making my REVO a super light, highly modified truck. I just want to be able to compete in some beginner races, which require big block engines. I've heard many, many good things about the picco engines, and I would like your opinion, but I am also aiming for ease of install. I would prefer to continue using my EZ start, but it is expendable. I would greatly appreciate any advice you have. A list of links to where I could buy the engine you recommend + all required installation pieces (like engine mounts) would be awesome also.
P.S. - What exactly is the difference between big blocks and small blocks anyway?
Thanks!
Mark

RE: Revo 3.3 big block upgrade.
sounds like the perfect engine for you is the RB 523...it will outrun a picco .26 max and is the easiest instal because it comes with everything you need in a kit. its not a Big block but more of a midblock.
to tell you the truth big blocks are mostly for bashing purposes in the revos. if you want to start racing for fun and want to be able to hang with other guys out on the track you want a midblock or modified small block.
the RB 523 is what i have and is very popular with many other revo owners. tons of power and you dont need anymore mods right off the bat.

RE: Revo 3.3 big block upgrade.
Hey man, that engine looks great. I like that it's EZ start ready as well. Thanks a lot for the advice.
So you said it's more of a midblock. Do you think they will allow the midblock in competitions? One of the local guys down at the track (who spends his life working on/racing RC trucks) told me I needed a big block to make my truck legal to race. What constitutes block size? And why do I need a big block to make it legal?
Thanks!

I agree, i have the RB 323 TM which is what the 523 replaced, and i love it.
As far as being legal, you'll need to find out how they define a big block, at your local track.
Genraly "big blocks" have a longer block then a small or "mid" block.
but some places also consiter anything over .23 CI to be a "big block"
your stock engine (trx 3.3) is a .20 CI, and is a (small block)
The rb 323 and rb 523 are both "mid blocks" (.23 CI )which means the block size is the same as the small blocks (like your 3.3)
but the internals are bigger, and you can use the easy start and all the other stock stuff.

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. All I know is that I need a big block engine to race in my local tourney's. I don't have to remove my reverse or anything like that (as far as I know).

RE: Revo 3.3 big block upgrade.
small block goes up to .21 then Big block is .28 and over. midblock is everything inbetween. i find it wierd that your track guy said you have to have a BB to race. usually that is the exact opposite. pro racers use 3.3's and other modded small blocks to race. Big Blocks get horrible fuel economy compared to small blocks and when racing fuel economy is important. you might want to try talking to someone else at your track. i really just have a hard time believing that the MT races at your track are BB only.
as far as the different mods....it is smart to do the forward only conversion, rear brake kit, and center diff. for a racer these things are very important. the center diff will help keep the front wheels on the ground when you pull the trottle coming out of the turn, the rear brake will let you set up the front and rear braking differently and the forward only lessens the rotational mass inside the tranny thus giving it a little better performance and it actually makes the tranny stronger.

RE: Revo 3.3 big block upgrade.
Roger that. Thanks for all the advice. Maybe it would just be worth me buying a whole other REVO just for racing if these mods are the case. I'm trying to stay away from dropping the reverse system because I love bashing also. I'm too lazy to run 50 yards every time I run into something.
