P-61 "Black Widow" flight characteristics?
How does the P-61 fly compared to a P-38, C-47, or B-25. How is the engine out flight. Looks like maybe with those big rudders, might be a little better than the others. thinking about a future project, & I really like the way they look.

P-61...Black Widow.....
Terry.....6 or 7 yrs ago I started building a Ziroli P-61 and all I can say is its a "Ton" of work......I really like the plane but you basically are building 3 fuses.......worked on it for a yr and finally gave up..........not to discourage you........I know someone whos flown a "Z" P-61 for nearly 8 yrs now and it flys well....powered by G-38's it does manage and aileron roll or 2 along the way......I think it could use alittle more power......maybe g-45's or brison 3.2's....something along those lines......I might have a picture of it....if I find it I'll post it for you.......Bill.......

I too am in love with this plane and I'm currently building the Ziroli Blackwidow. Just about 2 months into it and to describe it as a TON of work might be understated
I purchased two YS 140DZ "Dingo" motors so I hope I have enough power to haul what looks to be a pretty heavy airplane around.
If you decide to build one let me know as it really helps to discuss certain technical decisions as you go along.
Take Care,

Ziroli Black Widow...couldn't resist
Just wanted to add my 2 cents worth...the P-61 is an outstanding plane and the Ziroli kit of it is second to none!
I've posted a couple of pics in my gallery of the Ziroli P-61 from the 2001 Top Gun contest, built and flown by the master Greg Hahn....
I have the plane now and am searching for Greg (so far no luck)...would like to have him check it out, and perhaps fly it for awhile to make sure everything's still in the shape he built it in...
Enjoy,
bill

I think if I decide to go this route, I will build the Don Smith design. I like the 99" wingspan, much easier to transport, but is still a large aircraft.
