How can convert my G2 from printer parallel port to USB?
Hi everyone!
I purchased a G-2 several years ago and I really liked it mainly because I learned to fly with it.
Today, I have a special need and I am not sure how to resolve the challenge.
I just finished building a brand new super computer. The new motherboards do not have printer parallel ports. The G2 I purchased only came with a cable [no control box] that attaches my R/C transmitter to a printer parallel port. I would like to upgrade by finding a USB cable that will work with my G2. I remember years ago the manufacterers offered a USB cable upgrade. Now they do not seem to offer it anymore.
Please, can anyone help me to locate a USB cable that will work with my G2?
Thank you,
Fred

If it's to a DB9 Serial connector and it's a female on the Transmitter, this may work for you...

I've never tried it...I searched the web for USB to DB9 adapter...

LLD,
It is a parallel printer port Real Flight transmitter interface. I cannot remember which exact year I purchased my G2, I think it was sometime around 2000.
3 or 4 years ago I know there was an upgrade USB cable sold. That is what I am looking for.
I can send a pic of the parallel interface if that would help.

Sitting here just thinking about it...
I have a G2 with the USB, plus Add On's 1, 2, 3, and 5. Didn't think about selling it before, but if you're interested email me offline. I have G4 and will never need any of the G2 stuff again...

If you have an empty slot on your mother board, get a parrallel port card. I have a twin port high speed card, which gives me three parrallel ports.

It is a parallel (printer) port, I still use one with my G2. The adapter has a male connector on one end and a female on the other. The male plugs into the computer's printer port and the female connects to the printer cable (which I don't use since I have a usb printer).

Planeclothes,
I like your screen name...that is so cool.
Ok, I was at Fry's last night and they had one of the USB/parallel cables for sale for $19.99. I did not buy it yet. I have read numerous times that these cables will work on for printers, not for other peripherals. The cable at Fry's even gave a list of the compatible printers with which the cable would work.
Have you any other suggestions?

PS G4 demo is fun, but gettin' kind of old because I can only use the arrow keys, and not my transmitter.
