Default canopy

On my Tiger 2 I used what we call canopy screws. They are real small with a socket head. I used about 8 on my Tiger 2 spacing them equadistant apart. I've flown it for two years and don't worry about it coming off.

Since I paint the inside of my canopy, I use silicone sealant, along with small screws, to attach the canopy to the fuselage. The silicone sealant helps cushion the vibration and protects the paint from rubbing off. It also keeps the canopy from moving. If I need to remove the canopy for some reason, then it is fairly easy to do so.

Just about any of the 'Craft' line of glues are about the same as R/C 56.....but I'd go with 'Button Head' screws....and a lot of 'em - they look scale enough to pass!!!

The best way to attach a canopy is with a 3/8" wide strip of Ultracoat. Set the iron at very low temp and iron the strip on, half on the canopy and half on the fuse. This method is very neat and provides a solid attachment. RS

I personally like to screw my canopys on because if you need to get into the cockpit you can very easily. I reinforce the screw holes with inner nyrod. Drill a 1/8" hole and glue in the nyrod It gives the screw a good hold and won't strip out and is easy to remove. Hope this helps.

At first I wasn't going to use screws because it wouldn't be scale. The mustang doesn't have any raised fasteners in the canopy area but these are great ideas. I like the thought of having easy access to the cockpit area by being able to remove the canopy. That's what I'm going to do. Thanks all.

It's even easier if you use the self adhesive stuff. Oratrim (Ultracote self adhesive film) is not that easy to get but Solartrim works perfectly as well.

Attach canopy with strips of masking tape at corners. Run an even thin line of thin CA along the edge of the canopy where it meets the fuselage. Let dry, remove the masking tape and repeat CA application where the masking tape laid.

The key here is a thin even line. When your done you wont even know you used glue.

The down side is this is permanent. With screws you can remove and remount.

I usually follow up the CA with automotive trim stripe.

The only reason that I don't use Ultracote is because (at least for the blue area) I'm using Monokote and the Ultracote won't match the color. Also, the back portion of the canopy from is done in Flite Metal.
