Well it depends if your just gonna run say 6-cells or something like that the 13t will be faster. a 5800 is only a 17t brushed, but if your running a 4s lipo the 5800 will be what you want, the brushed motor wont be able to handle high voltages.

i had both a 13t and a NOVAK ss+ 5800, the 5800 was a lot faster.

handdown... the 5800 will be faster under the same voltage/Mah rating. The BL 5800 will also be able to carry a heavier load than the 13t as well as all the other low maintenence perks of a brushless motor.

So your all trying to say the Novak 5800 will be faster than the Team Orion 13T despite the fact that the 13T will have more RPM per volt and torque than the Novak 5800? The average 13T puts over 6000 RPM per volt. the Noval 5800 only puts out 5000 rpm per volt (you can look at Novaks own spec chart if you must). The 13T will be faster than Novaks 5800, especially since that motor will only accept 6-cell, or 2s lipo. But the 5800 would be more effecient.

I had a D3 6 turn on a 6 cell 2400 pack in the same car which was upgraded to a 3500kv 10t and 4600 2c lipo and the brushless/lipo set up was 6 mph faster. I am goin on that

to be exact i had a 13T orion revolution V2 motor you know the black one with the really cool v2 endbell. at the time my novak ss+ 5800 was faster than it with similar power.

well, I will say that Orion makes GREAT motors with a consistant powerband through Higher RPM so, I don't doubt you at all. Everyone here will always have a different story. Unfortunatly, the best way for people to find out is to test it themselves or see it first hand. Brushless has giving me a higher rpm per wind/turns VS brushed at the same voltage/Ah. I also think at this point, for people entering the hobby or re-building/ building vehicles should be looking at brushless for their powerplants (if money allows) before brushed powerplants.

It's an art.. lathing and such! I just find myself replacing the motor rather than going to the trouble. Nice thing about brushless, THOSE DAYS ARE OVER!

...sorta

A good 8 turn brushed motor would be very fast, but not after a few runs. the lower the turn, the faster the comm and brushes wear. I used to have to cut the comm every 10 runs on my faster motors. I have a lathe and used to cut my own comms, but ever since brushless came out, I never went back to brushed.

I don't think the XBR goes down to 8T brushed. Check the specs.

yes it does it has no brushed motor limit, and i think the motor limit for brushless is 8.5... anyone kno how fast a 8Turn Motor with a 7.2V (6 Cells) would go??

i raced a guy with my evader using the 5800 at the time and he had a 10t trinity motor and i beat him, so i know its a little faster than a 10t.. as far as 8t i dont know on 6 cells the 8 t could be faster, but slap on a 7 cell on the 5800 and the story changes.. but then again why deal with high power brushed motors, like people have said here, your going to go threw brushes like mad every 10 runs and then you have to cut comms more often, to me its not worth it and one of the main reasons i switched to brushless. leave the low turn motors to the professionals that race, you want speed GO BRUSHLESS.
