Default ok done something stupid..

I got a Cen buggy and haven't used it for ages... finally fixed and on trying to get to run smoothly i've manged to unsrew the srew (with the spring round it, the high mixture screw) all the way and now it won't go back in.. well i does but how do you know when it's right...?

what am i doing wrong...

plus when i go to brake the car wants to cut out (well it does).. and this because it completely shutting off the value.. and i can't get it to stop doing this... i played around with the servo and still it not having it... it this to do with the idle screw....

can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong..

it got to be something simple..

is the screw you are talking about the small black one on the carb?

if so that is your idle screw.

to readjust it open the throttle all the way.

now put the screw in almost all the way, now pull the throttle back, if you take off the air filter you should see that the carb is open a bit, back the screw out while pulling the throttle closed till you have about a 2mm air gap.

now start the car (IT WILL START "HOT" so have it tethered or up on blocks!!!!!) and back the screw out till it idles just below were the clutch engages.

this will now keep the engine lit when you brake (as it keeps the carb open a bit)

oh, check out this link http://www.cenracing.com/downloads/lowgpmanual.zip (ZIP FILE)

this is cens nitro engine manual.

cheers mate... better get tuning... i only ask as my car was cutting out during start up... and i've tuned it by the high speed screw (not the idle one..) and it's fine apart from acceleration, it a bit laggy at the beginning...

i take i should put the high speed screw back to where it was and adjust the idle screw and see if that helps... as i might be running it too rich!!

if its lagging at the start then you need to adjust your low end needle (the one on the throttle arm)

if it seems to sputter when it takes off then turn it in about 1/8th turn,

if it sags and seems like its starving for fuel then turn it out 1/8th

the idle sets the amount the carb can close so when you hit the breaks it doesn't close the carb all the way and kill the engine. it has nothing to do with mixture.

a rich engine will sound like its sputtering when you rev it. it also will be putting out quite a bit of smoke and fuel might be sputtering out of the pipe.

lean will sound like its struggling to gain RPMs there will be alot less smoke

Thanks for all this, but i think i have a problem with my CEN... the carb moves from side to side.. well wierd.. it should move so the carb opens and shuts...

I've put the screw in all the way and then back to out but i has made no difference... i backed the idle screw out till it almost fell out...

is the carb ****ed... because it's the throttle lever that hold the carb in place..

everytime i try and start it.. the carb moves... which is wierd..

do you think something wrong...

hope you understand what i mean??

I dont fully understand?

what do you mean by wierd

the carb might be gummed up from old fuel. I would take it off and clean it out with some WD-40 or some nitro cleaner.

then you can inspect all the needles and make sure they are nto bent/gummed up.

let me know if you find anything.
