Hey guys, I have an expresscraft osprey boat with a 30cc gas engine in it. I took the older futaba radio out of it because the battery clip broke and it was just outdated. I put a newer futaba 2 channel radio that I had sitting around and it has the same onboard 4 AA battery setup in it. The throttle works fine, however the large hi-torq steering servo barely moves. I am not smart when it comes to the radio/ electronics thing. Could anyone give me a suggestion or ideas?? THANKS

Was your 1/4 scale servo working fine before switching radio?

I also prefer to use a 5cell hump pack for power.

yes, it was working fine. The radio is a futaba 2 channel am radio- would that make a difference?

you mean you have switch from an FM to AM Tx and Rx?
if thats the case there should not be any problem.

I am wondering, if the Rx you have put in is limiting the voltage (BEC) and only sending 4.8volts to the servo instead of 6 volts???

Now the standard size servo won't have any problem working on 4.8V but for a 1/4 scale servo however 4.8V is low.

If the RX has a 3rd channel on it, plug the battery pack into that instead of the normal slot as the BEC with limit voltage. Next, move up to a 5-cell pack instead of the 4-cell. Big servos eat the juice.
AM radios usually aren't the best choice for a gas boat as they're more prone to picking up interference from the ignition system.

Futaba 2.4 ghz would be a good investment, not too expensive and works perfectly and never worry about who is on what frequencie. I think Tower has then for under a 100.00 bucks.

HI go for the futaba 2.4ghz not the spectrum there has been issues with this unit on water.
