RE: Call Sign
While trying to figure out call signs for a few of us new Dedicated Crew Chiefs, my former Deputy Commander of Maintenance's wife saw my last name and insisted on mine, since she was such a fashion hound. And it's stuck for the past 20 years... (Crap, I'm getting old!!!)

RE: Call Sign
I would guess to be accurate it would be that you have to actually currently FLY in the military, but there again that seems a little boistrous and over the top anyway. But anyone that uses a radio has a call sign, nick, whatever.
On a lighter note ~ I have a buddy from Indiana that goes by "Hoosier Daddy"

RE: Call Sign
Many years ago, Major Woody invited me to fly against him, using Microsoft Combat Flight Sim, on Microsoft's Game Zone. MGZ required me to come up with a Unique UserName. I tried many and all were rejected except BuschBarber.
BuschBarber
I have also used the name Colonel Lingus
While many of these names have been used, at the Bowling Hall, as they make it easy to change the bowler's name on the Scoring Computer, there are some I have not heard mentioned here, such as Tiny P Noose, Private Parts, or I Ben Jackinov

If I put anything on a scale model, I use whatever the full scale aircraft had.
The only time I have put such canopy markings on a sport aircraft was for my Super Bandit, and I simply used the name of one of my old RAF instructors - "Sqn Ldr Richard Head" (I kid you not, on his name).

RE: Call Sign
The guys at the fire station call me "YODA" or "DOUBLE NUT". The First is due to me being really calm in any situation and the second was from a bout with cancer at age 25. Now that I fly for a living I think my call sign is "what did the controller say" or "do what"
