Mixer/ecs/gyro placement on CX2
The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked. At the risk of sounding stupid, can the mixer/ecs/gyro on the Blade CX2 be placed on it's side. I have a very narrow canopy on my bird and it is shoving the electronics to one side. I would have better placement if I could lay everything on it's side. Just thought I would ask.

I'm guessing not, simply because the internal gyro in the unit is oriented to detect lateral movements of the tail. If you change the axis of the gyro by 90 degrees, I'm not sure it'll properly compensate movements of the tail. Also, depending on how you orient the electronics, your wire leads from the servos may not reach far enough. You can always try it, though. A good deal of fun is had by simply experimenting with things. There'd probably be less negative effect if you were able to move the 4-in-1 to the side, keeping it upright, instead of flipping it on its side.
Another option would be to attach a carbon tail boom (which makes it look more like a "big" heli), and then you're free to try different sizes of canopies on the front. There are plenty of larger canopies available.
No question is stupid... in fact, yours presented some interesting issues and I had to think a lot about it. I'm not sure I even have an answer. You may just have to experiment.

RE: Mixer/ecs/gyro placement on CX2
I guess a few people had to think about it. I posted this a few hours ago at work and was surprised it took so long for a response. I was starting to think it must be a really dumb question. I had to replace the frame on my heli and found that the wires to the motors were the shortest out of all. I did think that maybe I could lay the receiver on it's side and still mount the mixer/esc/gyro upright on top of it. BTW I do have the carbon tail boom and I think a 'racing' canopy. Which means very short and narrow. It does fly better in a breeze. Speaking of which the wind has died down. I hope my battery is charged. See ya.

Rob,
It sometimes takes hours or days to get some replies here... unfortunately I'm old, but not old enough to retire, so often the board isn't visited because of work commitments. Keep us posted on your solution.

Blue CNC,
Please et me add my 2 cent worth here. I fly my CX2 outside often while I let my 400 cool off. I also carry a laser dig thermometer. My temps get up into the 120s on the motors and 112 on the 4-1. Now "I am thinking out loud here" if you lay them on their side, 4-1 on the top I ponder the thought that the heat coming off the recevier is going to go up to the 4-1 which might cause a heat failure? On Monday I was flying at the park on my second battery. I did not closely watch my outside temp and then it happend. Your watching $187.00 up in the air and having fun only to see both motors STOP and down she comes! She hits the ground a lays there for 1 min 10 sec while I am looking at her saying OH SH** and then while laying there on the ground she fires back up and tries to away (while my TX is back at my chair ON! So with that said, stacking may add to heat issues.
GOOD LUCK JPee

That was an issue I never even thought of. I did not know that much heat could be created in the 4in1. I have certainly watched in horror as my heli got out of radio range and plummeted to the ground two times too many. I think for now I will stick to the stock configuration. Thanks for the heads up.

Hey Blue, nothing gained if nothing is tried if we don't try to think out of the box. Some ideas fly and some don't (a pun). I am not saying your idea won't work, but as you said: its hell to see your heli fall from the sky. It seems there is a better use for that money spent on replacement part, like extra batteries!!
