Power Plant for 1/4 scale Cub
I have a Sig 1/4 scale Cub, the needs to have the tired old OS1.20 replaced. Am trying to decide to go with another 1.20 4 stroke, probably SAITO, or a Zenoa G26...any ideas on which I should select, or alternatives for that matter.

Cub power
I have two Balsa USA Cubs. One has a Saito 1.20 fourstroke. IMHO it is woefully underpowered. The second has a Zenoah G-38. This plane is awesome. Some complain that the G-38 power makes it fly out of character. I think that the weight helped the flight characteristics of this particular model. If you show some restraint with the left stick, it is happy to fly in a scale manner. If you care to tumble, elevator, harrier or flat spin, the power comes in handy. Gas is also quite cost effective.
If you want a better sounding engine as well as excess power, you might consider a Saito 3.00 twin. At idle and just off idle, they sound spectacular. When in the power, they sound like my single cylinder Saito 1.80 (at mid to high throttle settings, you loose the cool sound that reminds me of a Truimph Bonneville loping along and just get the put-put of a fourstoke).

Power Plant for 1/4 scale Cub
Well... those opinions cover just about everything but a jet turbine! I have a G23 in mine which flies very well in a scale manner... if I had it to do over I would have used a little bit bigger/more powerfull engine. My only advise is use an engine that pleases your senses as they are the only ones that matter! Just a note... because the Cub has such a short nose moment... if you go with a smaller 120 4C... you will most likely need to add some nose weight(maybe a significant amount) depending on what you cover/paint the plane with. I prefer engine to lead.

I have had the Piper Cup flying with an OS 120 first generation. Then I put an OS 108 on it and finally I am flyinh it with a Zenoah 38. I like the Zenoh best. It sounds very scale like if you fly it almost at idle also if you are into floats it is the only way to go. Full power for take off, and then reduce it almost to idle.
By the way I am using a Master airscrew 18x10.

Power Plant for 1/4 scale Cub
I recently picked up a BALSA USA 1/4 scale Cub........I am going to build it as light as I can and use an OS 91 FS EFI...........Shooting for VERY REALLISTIC flight characteristics.

I put a G-38 in my cub, and lost a lot of the cub like innocence... It is a heavy high energy beast with some very uncub-like performance... if that is what you are looking for. Yes, gas is cheap, and I can tow gliders with it, but it ain't no putt putt plane any more...
A g-23/26 or Ryobi would be a better choice if you are seeking anything close to scale performance and still have a little bit in the bank.......

I'm not trying to doctor you as I know you are a seasoned modeler, but I've only known the Maloney's to be excellent book ends and nothing else, have you used yours before now?
Everybody I've known had a miserable time getting these things started and when they did, very underpowered and unreliable.
By the way, I'm going back a few years, don't know if they ever improved them.

Sig Cub/what engine
I have three Cubs, a Hanger 9 Cub with a G23, love it and it flys very well at 45% power. I have a Clipped wing Sig that is hot with an OS 90 2 stroke and the full span Sig that works well on a Saito 120. I plan of using my Saito 150 on my next Sig Cub. just to see the difference. I fly them mostly on floats. I have 4 120's and I like the two OS's but I think I get better power out of my Saitos, They seem to like the bigger props.

1/4 scale cub
Murph,
I have had four engines on my Sig Cub, full span. Originally a Super Tiger 90, poor choice but it was cheap. Next, a Saito 150, great power no complaints. Then a OS 160 Gemini, wow, smooth and a ton of power. Then I found the combo I like the best, OS 120 Gemini. Ultra smooth, neat sound and just enough power to keep you on your toes. It does not fly like a sport plane, if you do not what to use rudder this is not the engine for you.

I also have an RCS 1.40 in my Sig Cub, which I consider to be major overkill, but then again I'm into scale flight rather than 3D. It is neat in that I'm able to use a scale Classic Props 18x8, which is probably too much prop for the engine and would produce way to much thrust for the plane if used with the proper engine, but works just fine in this context and looks great.
By the way, I have a Saito 1.20 in a Hangar 9 100" Cub, and it has more than enough power for my tastes.
