Just Starting
Alright well just got my T-Maxx 3.3 and am almost through my break-in tanks. I have been having alot of fun. Had some over heating problems and had to kill it for a bit so I could figure out what I needed to do. Which I think im just running to lean right now and need to turn it richer. Also need to turn down the idle.
But what I was getting at with this is I have been looking around on the web and there seems to be endless amounts of upgrades for this thing. I was wondering can someone suggest to me some upgrades that I should actually consider? I am not really racing or anything I am just driving around the hills around my home at this point.
Any really important things that I should look at soon though?
Right now what I have considered is - New Bumpers - Some type of roll cage or something so I dont break it when I flip it - Then other then that I thought I could replace the suspension arms but probably will wait till im a better driver and go further into the suspension from there.
I saw some high end engine coolers to replace the stock one is that something I should consider? Im kinda paranoid now that I had it overheating I thought I was going to break it before I even got it broke in with it running so hot.

Upgrades really depend on what you want from your truck. If you hit lots of things - get stronger parts such as aluminum bulkheads and rpm arms all around. For performance..? Depends on if you want more maneuverability/agility, speed, strength, durability, or flashy and shiny etc.
Overheating definitely is not good for an engine but don't be afraid to keep going either until you learn it and feel comfortable. Keep in mind that everything can be repaired or replaced.
A few things to consider; Clean the air filter as per manufacturers instructions, oil it and zip tie it down to the carb. Always make sure the piston is bottom dead center when it is not running. And don't be afraid to ask LOTS of questions here and at your local hobby shop.

RE: Just Starting
Ya well I dont know if I am going to be hittin things on purpose but I am not going to say its not going to happen seeing as when I was trying to break it in I remembered how rusty I am on these things. Its been many years.....
I think I will look into the Arms and Bulkheads. Do you have any you would reccomend I saw you say RPM I have read other things about those. If possible can you link me to some of the things you talked about.
And about the heat ya I was worried about it I am going to take my truck into the Hobby Shop tomorrow mourning and see what they have to say about it. I do not think anything is wrong with it. I dont know how I would tell though. It was running still so I dont know if heat damage would make it not run completely or not.
As for the other things you said Durability is important right now. Since I am just getting started I dont want to be sinking endless amounts of money into it until I know what I want to do with it and know I love it. Even though I guess breaking and fixing it is part of the fun/experience.

cut some cooling holes in the windsheild and back window to allow more airflow over the cooling head. Mount the body as low as possible on the chassis so the cooling head sticks out of the body as far as it can. Have you tuned any of the needles yet? if so go back to the factory settings as per the manual and start over again. The TRX engines have a very small tuning window.

Well here is what has happened so far. Got it going again reset the HSN and LSN back to normal it was still getting pretty hot though. I am going to try and cut the holes in the windshield though next.
I got throught the 4th tank of the break-in and started on the 5th. Got about half way through the 5th and it stopped. I was thinking it was over heating again but it was only around 220. Called around was told to reset the HSN and LSN again told to check carb make sure it was closing replaced the glow plug then check the glow plug then replaced again just in case. Make sure it wasnt flooded. Blah Blah....finally the last guy had me switch the red and black wires on the motor and had me hit the ez start again.
I guess from the sound he could tell it was the bearing under the ez start and he is sending me a new one.....so thats lame my friends is going strong and im left in the dust waiting for mail.

RE: Just Starting
dont feel bad, i bought a revo 1 month ago.. and had the motor dead before the 5th tank.. i didnt read the instructions very well heheh. i got to hold the camera and record my friends KaptainChaos and SureToCrash haveing fun, so i know how you feel there. i bought my new motor last week, and got her brokein in with no troubles. after the break in, there was a snag or two, but i worked em out. now my revo is insane. before.. giveing full throttle was ok, totally manageable, but i got her tuned nicely, half to 3/4 throtle is insanity, all hell breaks loose with tire shredding fury. when you get it going, and spend some time with it yourself, and no one around, you two will connect nicely im sure

try the windshield cut out too.. it really helps a lot. here is a pic of mine.. i did the same on my tmaxx too.. i used window screen on the holes to help keep out debri.. i used a very strong heating/ac tape to secure the screen to the underside of the truck.. it takes the heat very well and does not peel off..jake.
p.s. i used a dremel to cut out the holes.. it is pretty tuff plastic so a utility knife doesnt work to well.

Looks like u did a pretty good job on cutting out the holes there Jake!!. I think I'm probably gonna do the same thing to my revo eventually to help aid in cooling because I know they generally run a bit cooler(per say) with the front and back windows cut out....
