What size battery for G-26 ignition?
What size (capacity) is recommended for the ignition for the G-26 for about 4-6 flights? I plan to use a 4.8 volt pack, probably a Nicad.
Thanks,

Gadi:
Thanks for your reply. Have you personal experience with actually flying models with the G-26 with electronic ignition? If so, about how many flights per session, and about how long (i.e. minutes per flight) on average were the flights?
Thanks,
Cajuncharley

I fly most of my gassers under 85cc with a 1400 or 1500 NoBS NiMh packs. You can generally get 6-8 flights in without problem with flights upwards of 15 mins depending how you fly.

The stock Zenoah EI draws from 1.5-2.2 amps depending on throttle possition. At full throttle a 2000mah nimh batt should last about 45 minutes.
I have a G26EI and I use a 2000 mah nimh, 2 flights 20 min each would require about 1400 mah recharge.
I recently installed a CH ignition in my plane so I wont have to charge every few flights. Although if you have room you could always put a larger battery in the plane.

Wow! I thought only the EI for the G20 was power hungry... that's crazy! If thats the case for the 26 as well you might very well need a 2000 or higher.

Dirty Bird:
What is the source of the A123 batteries to which you refer? Also, what size, milliamps, volts, etc. would you recommend?
Thanks,
Cajuncharley

THE G26EI WHICH I JUST INSTALLED AND AM RUNNING IN ON MY 120 SIZE 9FT SPAN TRAINER IS A 4,8V ONLY. 2000MAH BATT IS NEEDED, AS I FOUND OUT IN GROUND TESTING. 800 MAH LASTED 10 MIN WHICH WAS MAINLY AT IDLE.
I AM GOING TO POST MY OWN BUILD UP AND INSTALL OF THE THING ON HERE SOON IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED. WILL INCLUDE PROBLEMS WITH THE G26EI AND REQUIREMENTS AND FLIGHT INFO. THX

If you have to make an investment in a new battery pack, look at the A123 battery. I fly an Extra 300 with a DA-50cc gas engine and JR 921 RX and high torque servos and use a 2300mah A123 pack for the ignition and two for the RX. After 5 flights, I have plenty of capacity left in my A123 batteries. When I charge them, only takes about 5 minutes to bring them back to full capacity. While this technology has been around a few years for RC, I have found that not many RC flyers are aware of it and the radio manufacturers have not introduced it into their complete system when you buy them. I'm in the process of replacing all my Nicad/Nimh RX battery packs with A123. If you want to see the product and get some info go to www.sincityjest.com and look at the A123Racing thread on RCU.

I'm using a 4600mah nimh 4.8v battery pack on my 26 cc Zen EI, I don't have any issues I just top up in the morning and fly. My Cub whenever I want during the day, so faar haven't had to charge at the field yet.
