3W 106 sagging in inverted or knife edge flight.
Hey guys, there´s a final veredict to this problem?
Mine do that to and I'd like to stop it.
I read some posts saying about a aluminum block to the 3W to replace that reed block plastick one, but I couldn't, find it. Does anybody knows something about it?

I have the same problem with my DL100. Tried putting a carb plate on it with no change, so I am now going to put a tube on the plate and a vent into the fuz.

aircraft international has the aluminum blocks in stock. They are listed in the parts section. Basically the alum block gets warm and evaportates any fuel that may puddle in there.

Here's the part number from Aircraft Internationals website: 3WRCHAL
http://www.aircraftinternational.com Go to accessories and click on carb mounting and induction housing. I have one, works great.

Usually venting the carb inside the fuse is a good fix. If knife edges is still a problem, using a snorkle or baffling the motor helps.

I went through all of this recently and I did everything suggested. Then, I finally ordered the aluminum block kit and put it on. The motor ran like it never has before. It now is the smoothest running engine I have ever owned. It took 10 minutes to install the block. Aircraft international rocks, they got the block to me in 2 days!

How to order in AI? I searched for something, but they don't seems to keep an on line order system...

They answered my e-mail. I need to send them by e-mail or fax my cred card information. Can I trust them? It's safe to me?

Ok, guys!! I will try the aluminum block (already ordered from AI) and the TBM CF carb plate. Does anybody have any issue about it to share?

Ok. I have the aluminum block in place and its works really great. No more sagging problems to my 3W.
It's a cheap mod that worth more than the dollars we pay for it.
It's strange, but in the AI site, they are selling the plastic block U$ 10.00 more expensive than the aluminum one.
So, I don't know why 3W is not selling this mod like standard in all their engines.
I will try the CF plate from Troy too.

I think some, if not all AI 106 engines come with this block now. I have compared the plastic with the aluminum model and it looks as though the fit around the reed cage is now very close and leaves no room for fuel to puddle as before. If they made the plastic block to the same dimensions of the new model it would probably work as well.

Hi,
I had a similiar issue with my DA50 in an Extra300. When I would knife edge to the left the Engine would sag. I installed the TBM Carb plate and it seemed to have solved the problem. It was easy to install. Took longer to get the prop and cowl off than it did to install it. I cut mine with a pair of scissors and and dremeled the corners smooth. Piece of cake and no issues since and it even looks good.

Mine saggs only on KE (BME110) and I just get used to this nasty effect.
Let me know if that works. Based on what I have read onnthese forums, I have the impresion that just about all the large twins will sag while in KE flight, no mather what brand.

Yeah!!
Gas engines are the unique solution for bigger planes, but I believe they are dangerous too. They are not 100% trustable. The knife edge sagging is just one of the failures we can get.
The problem is let our expensives planes depending of the good performance of this machines.
It's not a big deal stay torque rolling and doing another engine/low-altitude stuffs with this things all day long... If they fail, the losts will be HUGE.
And, this doesn't happens only with weekend pilots.
Check out the end of this Somenzini's flight...
