some time ago model airplane news or rc magazine ran a "how to" article on adding a balsa cowl for a 4*60 or a carl goldberg tiger.
does anyone remember the article?
i've got the issue somewhere in my collection but i can't find it.
help!

I build cowls using 1/2" sheet for the outsides.. sand to shape, a layer of glass cloth, cut to fit the motor.. not a difficult process.
I don't like the bolt-upright kit installations so I lay the motors on their side. Looks much better in the air..
Here's my Tiger 60 done that way....
And a Somethin' Extra

Please email me a copy of the article in the September 2000 RCM on how to build a balsa cowl for the Tiger 2, as I am building one and would like to know how they did this mod.

Rite the balsa nose looks real good . Please note that the ring behind the spinner Has to be made so
u can remove it to get the engine out/off. you may also start looking for a long skinny allen wrench
to fit the bolts holding the Dave Brown engine mt to the firewall--the whole thing must come out to be worked on.
Still looks darned good on my 4* 40 I like it.

I built 4*60 with a cowl and sheeted turtle deck. Both are big hits at the local field. The cowl is 1/2" balsa CA'd to each other and trimmed to fit. Be certain to leave space or an opening for all adjustments. Spend the time and follow the article and you will a GREAT looking plane.

I built a balsa cowl for my four star more or less following that article. I made the bottom of it removeable with a piece of thin plywood attached with screws. The engine is mounted horizontally and I also made a section of teh cowl behind the engine removeable. It attaches to the bottom with screws and to the top with sliding pins made from piano wire. I have actually made two of these, the first was painted with Lustercote but I wasn't happy with the finish. I broke that one in half in a mishap so I made a new one and covered it with monocote.

All,
I went ahead and ordered the article straight for RCM. My cowl is looking awesome! I even added an air scoop inlet. Pics will be posted upon completion. I am also willing to scan it into pdf format and email it to anyone that still wants it. Email me if you need it.

I'm done with rough work for the cowl. It didn't turn out as "great" as I expected. It might be passable when I monokote it.

I didn't think it was that bad for my second attempt at kit building, but thanks for the honest reply. Perhaps you could give me some pointers on how to do it correctly? Pictures if possible. Thx
