Traxxas 4tec Easy Upgrades
Hey all,
I realise that the 4tec is not the best car going around, but I managed to get one pretty cheap to use until I can afford a better car. Anywho I am completely new to RC in all ways and I would like to do some upgrades to my little 4tec. I believe it is the model without the ESC.
First off I would like to upgrade the motor and add an ESC. What would you guys recommend and is it difficult to do (particularily install an ESC)? Also I would like to get some new (foam) tyres, but this I can probably figure out myself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh another thing, can I buy a motor and simply unscrew the old one, unsolder, then screw and solder in the new one? Will I need to change anything else like gearing, speed control...etc.

Yes to all the above. The motor is a simple swap the way you said. The gearing will depend on the motor. I race mine in stock touring and VTA so drop down a couple of teeth to start with for a stock motor. If stock any decent speed control under $100 will work fine. From there it up to your billfold how fast you want to go. By the way, spring for the $20 bearing kit first.

maybe better tires? not sure what would be good. you can probably find some minimaly used tires at a track during a race that people throw out. thats how i got mine. i agree with mxrich that you should get ball bearing. they help out alot.
