STS is dead. The 30 is a powerhouse but pretty soon parts will be hard to find and the quality is very poor. Picco is the top motor for the savage and then the LRP.

Stock for stock the STS will keep up and in some cases outstrip a Picco .28 given the same gearing and vehicle... STS is of very poor quality and is pretty much dead as mentioned, would not recommend. Also it is claimed that they do not benefit from modding as they are timed to the max from the factory. They are built of poor materials, though mine has held up so far to 5 gallons and is running very strong. The Pre-2006 STS .30s are the powerhouses with the weak pinch, they are the good versions.
Picco .28 has more torque with better workmanship and a better reputation, these motors rip modded.

RE: STS 30 or Picco .28
I have had 5 STS engines and only one I had problems with is one modified by Rick Brake at RBmods and it never did run properly out of the box. The other 4 have been very good engines some with well over 5 gallons on them. But I recently took my STS 3 port 28 out not because of problems just want to try a Picco 28 P3. Do not have my Picco broke in all the way yet so I cannot voice a good opinion on it yet but hope to get at least another quart through it tomorrow. As far as getting parts for a STS there is not any real problem.

I had both, I gave my STS 30 away. It ran great, but I fought the tuning all the time. It was tempermental and to get in the power, it ran crazy hot. It was a hard engine to do much with except full on power and it was great at that. I think I am up to around 25 Picco powered trucks now. Glen
