I have a few questions on cars that I'm looking at. They're mainly sites like ebay, RCU store and stuff like that so I'll have updates on when I need cars.

No, I want opinions from people who have owned or know a lot about the cars. There's some great deals floating around, and I need more than just reviews on the internet.

P.S. does anybody know anything about Serpents? Are they good cars?

This may become irrirtating if you keep asking about different, individual cars. You may want to go over what you want to do - street bashing, racing, etc.

Recoil. I have one, have raced it and have a few comments. It's not that great of a starter car since it has a few weaknesses. First, the stock motor isn't that great and you'd need to upgrade it. It has an integrated ESC and receiver - so upgrades require both receiver and esc + motor. I've put a Mamba motor + ESC in it and it pushed it pretty well, but it may be a little large for the 1:18 scale brushless setup. Second, the hinge pin mounts break pretty easily (at least for me) and that requires some wrenching to put in.

I'd say look at something in the 1:10 range for not only durability but for upgradeability and "standards". If you were to look at a Recoil, consider an Associated TC3 or similar used car. They're very durable and are great in terms of messing with upgrades and such. For smaller-scale, the Associated RC18T would be a good choice. Smaller than a recoil, it has a lot of good value for the money and lots of upgradeability.

If you "must" buy new at a retail store, be careful in that you end up paying more than what you would if you shopped used. Also, if you want to go "off road" at times, consider something like an Associated B4 which is a 2wd buggy that is pretty awesome in terms of simplicity and upgradeability. Difference is with a buggy, you don't have quick steering like you would a road car.

You might consider Tamiya's cars.
TT-01 is good for just bashing around and also for a beginner's car.

TA-05 is something to consider if you feel that you want to race now or in the future.

TB-02 does well for racing or bashing.

TB-03 (not quite out yet) is is an updated version of the tb02 and includes inboard front shocks.

Do the TT-01 and TA-05 have a nice, big chassis that you can work on?
I ask that in case I get a roller.

All the tamiyas have good chassis space,the TT is a good carpark basher and the TA-05 is a good racer.
The TB series is also shaft driven like the TT but better steering setup.
The TLs were replaced by the TT series

if its going to be a stricktly streeter or even a drifter i've been running tl-01's and ff02's as streeters and they are durable and with a good esc and motor backed up with a battery can go quite fast. Dont forget the basic required mods like.....shocks and tires as well as bearings and the better the bearing the less resistance but if its going to be a basher ceramics can be a little much.

tt01 is a great car to work on an learn about rc'ing.and there are more hop ups than you can poke a stick an out of.
