How to destroy an engine the easy way
If you want to kill an engine quickly, try hydro locking one
Stuff your boat running 60mph, which will peel the cowl back and force water into the engine running wide open.
Hopefully it will happen so fast that you dont have time to release the throttle and viola!
One destroyed top end.

That's some bad luck. That is a modded head on there well off of there. You going to rebuild or get a new motor?

I would check the crank and rod thats a lot of force to be applied would not be surprised if both are slightly bent

Man that is a lesson in physics ! or mechanics or the non compressability of water !

Thats why I run my lethargic weedeater with an airfilter ! Slow saves lives ..I sure love seeing boats run that ragged edge right before they get airborne though.

As I sit on the shore thinking about hopping my boat up, I realize I might have to fish it back in if it got going that fast, and that would mean getting out of the lawn chair! haha

Seriously..sorry about the damage, hope you get it running again quickly..

Eina pain.
Would a splash guard over the carb have helped. I have seen some guys put them on to stop water getting in when the hatch goes flying?
Man that hurts to see a motor look like that. I am creeping closer to those kind of speeds but would hate to have that happening.

ouch...
would air filters not prevent this?... I know we have a general consensus that air filters are bad... lower hp... get soggy.... no dust on pond water ...
Or some other type of carb cover that does not restrict air flow or gets soggy, but prevents jetting water in a flip.

ouch lol
thats why it seems to me a better idea to run proper cowl locks so the cowl wont come off in a flip, but it seems most people use orings so the cowls basically fall off instead of running the risk of breaking the cowl

Now, the boat in question is my Avenger. The cowl peeled back from the front which is locked in with aluminum tabs. The o-rings are only used to hold it down in the rear. It stuffed so hard that it tore the aluminum out of the front. Pretty hard core IMO

Oh dude. Makin my wallet hurt lookin at the pics. Too bad you don't have some of that slow motion video of the crash that your famous for.
I think when it comes to a hard stuff there's really not anything you can do. There's going to be damage.
