HELP, FAST...Which prop to run on stock zen 260?
after screwing around for 2 years, i finally got this woody ready to drop the motor in after i give it a clear coat. Was wanting to run this thing asap but the only thing i dont have is a prop. Im going to buy a prop from wharehouse hobbies and i dont have the time to balance and polish a brass prop just yet. I was looking at the 75mm and 80mm aluminum props but dont know what to really get. Its got a zen g260 with a wet pipe system that i purchased from WHH a year ago. Thanks in advance guys!

on the wharehouse hobbies site, it says that no additional work is required to use it. whay would it say that? If that is the case what is the best prop to use?

Grim Racer props also advertise the same thing. Have several of them and all needed sharpening. Have 2 of the WHH aluminum props and they both needed sharpening. I prefer them to be able to cut paper. There are several nice props out there. For your stock engine, you could start with a Pranther 275 or similar size. Still needs sharpening and balancing however.

Those aluminum props DO need to be sharpened. They come thick and as dull as a butterknife! My boat loves the octura x472 and the 70mm(from Whobbies) and the grimracer 3 blader.

I suggest you get a sharpened & balanced Prather 275 from Dasboata (Chris Hofmann). He's reasonably priced & the prop will serve you a long time.
You can probably get one of his off of Ebay, that's where I got mine.

Went to his website but has no listings for prather props at all. Will have to e-mail him.... Found somwheres that grimracer prop equivalent chart: 65x100/2 blade=prather 265
67x105/3 blade=prather270/275
Just info to share.....

I have one of each of the WHH Al props; they are balanced; but dull; they perform much better after you sharpen them.
The 280 and the 70mm-3 are quite a load on the 260; the 275 runs better for me after detonguing a little and sharpening; I have gotten the best performance and speed with the Octura X472; an avg of 4 mph better; just sharpening and balancing; no tweaking of the blades.
The best improvement so far in the performance of the engine has been the change to a 275 carb; The Magnum did a wheelie today; came out of the water landed on the stern and bent the rudder mount sideways. It really woke the Zen up. Cheap mod too; $27.00 .

would one of these provide more accelleration over speed and vice versa? kinda leaning towards the x472 from whh for 40 bucks balanced and sharpened.
dasboata has a few props on his store but none of them look familiar. can someone check them out for me?

I would recommend e-mailing chris (Dasboata) and asking his opinion on what to try. The guy knows props like the back of his hand and has hundreds more options than listed on his site. He has set several speed records over the years (as have many customers of his). He has proven to be an asset to the hobby. And if your not happy with the prop he will make it so you are
He has my highest respect and it is well deserved.

The x472 is a good prop for a stock zenoah it unloads pretty fast so great acceleration and top speed is pretty good.I prefered the 6717/3 just ballanced and sharpened from dasboata, slightly slower on takeoff due to its 3 blades but it was faster top end on my vee, also it removed the chinewalking i was getting with the x472.Id maybe email Chris and ask his advise ,in the meantime the x472 is a decent start in my opinion.

Stock engine big prop, stock engines have great low end torque, as they get modded the torque goes higher in the RPM range. 275, 280, X470/3 and 3014 are all good behind a stock Zenoah.

I have 3 Octura alli props, they all came out of balance and blunt. I had to do considerable work to all 3 and would not have run one out of the packet IMHO.
