Default REFINISHING A BALSA SURFACE -AFTER REMOVING THE FILM COVERING

HI a balsa surface can be very difficult if imposible to refinish once you have removed a film covering from itfrom my experience often a new film covering will not stick to the surface and paint will not stick to the surface-(or will peel off over time ) some of my planes are 20 years old-adding to the problem as they need to be refinished FILM covering gets loose and will peel off after that much time i found a very interestring solutioni sand down the surface -it seems to have an oily feel to the touchi then coat the surface in SIGMENT GLUE out of the tubewith an epoxy brushthe surface stays very smooth and the glue almost cannot be seen- when glue dries sand it with 100 grit -so far i have left the surface just like that (balsa wood color ) on my older planes-as it is fuel proofed as it stands-or i have painted the surface were i choose-i have not tried to install new film over the new glued surface as of yet but see no reason why that would not work as well-thus solving the problem of appling a new finish to a given balsa surfacei do stay up nights thinking about RC stuff-just came in from redoing an old stik i love to fly -have done the above to a few planes at this pointtry it it works great- this is the results of 25 years of building and some personal experimentation to solve a surface preparation problem keep them flying REGARDS TONY
