Engine leak?
Hey everyone
Ive been having a problem lately with my HPI trophy 3.5. It runs fine for a few minutes but then as soon as I stop and apply throttle it makes a gurgling sound and doesnt have any power. If I let it idle for a few seconds (5) it accelerates perfectly again. This happens after I have had a few seconds of WOT. IT sounds as if it is about to die.
Then after my runs I open up the casing and notice a lot of what looks to be oil or fuel accumalating on areas around my engines underhead.
NOw im no expert at engines but Im wondering If perhaps I have a leak. I cant tell for sure but it looks like its coming from the underhead. I have no idea what to do because everything is fitted correctly. I frequently take my heatsink head of to clean it. And then I make extra certain to fit everything accordingly.
If its any help, this only started happening after I had a run in with a servo failure, where my car was on full throttle for a while then flipped over 100m away from me, on my way running towards it the engine died and I thought it blew, but luckily it starts up fine and still runs at top speed/acceleration ect. eccept when I run it for a while and then accelerate from a standstill.
If anyone has any ideas/reccomendations or advice please help?

RE: Engine leak?
Hi and welcome to RCU [8D]
If you've got fuel leaking from under the cooling head that could certainly contribute to the problem you're having. When you've removed the heatsink did you notice a very thin metal washer (possibly more than one) between it and the liner? If this has become scratched, bent or omitted altogether that would explain the leak.

ah that could be, I have noticed that they are a bit rougher than when new. also the underhead makes a scratching noice when I place it over the piston sleeve. that sounds as like dirt, but There are definetely no traces of dirt.
So the solution would be to replace the washers? Is the roughnes of the washers a result from the servo failure I had? If I replace them should my problems be solved?

Yeah, replacing them should do the trick. Their thickness may be listed in the manual otherwise you'll have to accurately measure them as to retain the original compression.
It may also be worth checking over the cooling head itself for any signs of deformation around the base that may have resulted from the car flipping upside down. Unless it was a really heavy impact though I doubt that's very likely...

RE: Engine leak?
Hey guys, I have a redcat landslide, Ive had it for about 9 months and have literally driven it for about 3 tanks. nothing but problems. Bought a savage x. got about a gallon out of it. engine's busted. I got the landslide out again and the lhs guys told me they couldnt tune it because the carb it shooting fuel like nobody's business. What can I possibly do to fix this?...its been 9 or 10 months..2 trucks and 1400 bucks...no action. The gallon that I had driven through the savage x is only from trying to tune and trying t see if I repaired something correctly....anyway...why is the carb spitting fuel and stalling?
