RE: Pilot RC 30% Extra 260
Got it today!!!!! The pictures on the website dont even come close to doing this plane justice. It is BAD *****!!!!!!!! This is my first 50cc plane, up until now its been 28%, but this plane was packed alot better than anything I have had shipped before. Double boxed, but the outer box is lined with sheets of pressboard. I think you would have to run over it with a truck to damage during shipping
It takes the "quick build" concept to a new level. Everything is hinged. Rudder is removeable. Fuel tank, and filler system is already installed, as are the pull pull cables. All the control horns are installed. Covering is phenominal. I have built alot of arf's, mine and others. This planes quality is absolutely top notch. I have not started the assembly yet, and these are initial impressions, but I looked it over pretty good.
I'll post some pics soon. Sorry, wont have any of packaging, was too excited.

RE: Pilot RC 30% Extra 260
Furhter inspection of my plane, I obviously didnt look it over as well as I thought, I had some broken longerons in the fuselage, glue spots on the canopy, and the rudder hinges were not even close to being lined up. So excited to get it, I overlooked it. Now over two weeks after notifying them, still have not got any action from Troy built models. They told me UPS would be picking it up within 8 days. Most other companies would have sent the parts with a return label for the damaged ones. I think Troy built is actually blowing me off. Anthony, the customer service guy was suppose to call me monday with a status report, well its wednesday. Instead of taking care of the customer, then getting a claim, I have to wait until UPS tells them if they are going to cover it or not. So I got a nice looking Extra teasing me, that I cant put her together. So far on this issue, its the poorest customer service I have ever experienced, lets hope they redeem themselves.

Those longerons can probably be glued. The rudder hinges would have to be cut off and re-done. Glue could probably be reomoved from the canopy with some care. Anyway probably easier to just fix it. I'd buy direct from Pilot rather than Troy built. They are a middle man, and not a value added one from what I've read.

Yes they could be fixed, but I will have to remove a significant amount of covering. Did not really want a patch on a new plane. I could cut the rudder hinges loose and re do them, but I shouldn't have to. Someone already cleaned the glue off of the canopy, but it left melted spots in the smoke area right on top. That alone, I would have been OK with. It does seem like troy built is blowing me off, hoping I will just fix it. They did offer store credit if I fixed it myself, but they did not say how much.

Hey I hear ya. Your first big plane and it's slightly botched up. Trust me I'd be pi$$ed too. I hate starting out with a broken plane (I'm a pefectionist so can you imagine?). I recently bought a foam plane that had the upper fuse broken on the nose in two places. I just glued the cracks and moved on but I was bummed. It's was crashed before I even flew it !!! The only reason I wasn't too upset is because after a few golf dome events I'm sure I'll dork it in a few times. So I just fixed it and moved on. Not sure what to tell ya but no seemingly "bad" experience is ever wasted. You always learn something: 1) Don't buy planes from TBM ever again 2) How to fix a shipping-damaged plane.

Jimeni,
I'm sorry to hear about your bird...
I have the PilotRC 35% Katana that I purchased directly from Pilot... They were great to work with, hopefully TBM will be as cooperative...
Good Luck,
Ed "Hibrass" Harley

Just got a call from TBM, UPS will be picking up the damaged parts Monday, and TBM says they will ship new ones once they receive the damaged ones. Anthony was very apologetic about the delay. So, we'll see how it goes.
