Can I use this radio?
Hi everybody, I am just getting back into the hobby after a LONG time out of it. I have an old school Yokomo YR4M Pro (Graphite chassis) and decided to get it up and running again. Only I'm doing a mix of old car with new technology. I just bought the following for it and will probalby be putting it all in over the weekend.
-Novak GTB Velociti 3.5 Brushless motor and ESC system http://www.teamnovak.com/products/br...tem/index.html
-Reedy 5100mah 7.4 volt LiPo batteries (saddle pack) http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/268762.asp
-Airtronics MX-3FG 2.4ghz FHSS-2 Radio http://www.airtronics.net/index.php/...x-rx-only.html
-ProPeak Galant charger http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/158395.asp
-HPIRims and tires (my old HPItires are dry-rotted and shot as well as I broke one of my rims) http://www.hobbypeople.net/inc/bigim...amp;height=150
I've got two questions since I've been out of it for so long, the hobby has changed ALOT!!!
1. I was reading that the Airtronics radio I just bought says "The receiver is not equipped with BEC circuitry. Do not use more than 6.0 volts to power the receiver. Anything higher than 6.0 volts may damage or destroy the receiver. Only use a 4.8-6.0 volt battery pack or ESC that is designed to lower the voltage to this range." Does this mean I cannot use the battery Ijust purchased with this radio since the battery is 7.4 volts? If not, what are my options, keep the radio and get a different receiver? Or is there some other trick Ican do?Or am I worried about nothing and it's all compatible? Obviously Idon't want to fry the radio/receiver and I got a smokin deal on it for just $99. If I have to, I can return it and get something else that would be compatible if this one is not, but I like the radio's features and like I said, I got a great price on it so I'd like to use it if possible.
2. Iwas having a tough time choosing between the ProPeak Galant charger and the ProPeak Cavalier charger. I went with the Galant, but they're both the same price and couldn't really tell what the difference was and whether or not one would be better or not for my use with the above battery. If the Cavalier is better, i can still exchange the Galant as long as I don't use it, so I'd like to get this answered before I start soldering the Deans Ultra Plugs to the wires etc.
Thanks in advance for the answers, I'm excited to be getting back into the hobby. Even though things have changed a lot with regards to electrics, the cars themselves don't seem too much different than my old Yokomo so I'm sure I'll be able to hold my own with some practice, if not, maybe i'll just have to break down and pick up a new car too lol

RE: Can I use this radio?
I have no clue about the charger but you're fine with the radio. The ESC will automatically reduce the voltage to 6V. I have the same Airtronics system and I use it with my 7.2V batteries just fine.
