503rd Tiger 1
So I'm finishing up the KT. Getting it wired up and puttig a little delay in the movement of Mr. Tank Commander.
Taking a break I'm looking though my book on the history of the 503rd. On page 222 I find a Tiger 1 Mid-production.
Wow the cammo! It looks dunkengleb with green swirls! The number 300 is under the forward three track link holders. The fenders and bent beautifully!
Ok now I have the next tiger idea. So I double check with TIGERS IN COMBAT VOL.1 and find the 503rd never had that cammo. Pictures says it was taken in Sept. 43. So I'm thinking it was an April 43 production. Now not so sure.
Hummmmm what to do. I'm still going to model the tank no matterwhat unit it was with but I sure hope to find out.
Love this part.....detective work!!!

That would be my question also, I take it that the book is “Combat history of Scwerepanzer Abteilung 503†if so which publisher is it a JJ Fedorowicz book or do you have a picture you can host, I may be able to help a little,
Another good book on 503 is “45 Tiger en Normandie†this is a French language book but has some good pictures

Don, sorry for the delay I have fond the picture on page 195 of the JJF book, I have to do a little research first but I think you have picked a truly unique tank with a feature not commonly known, give me a few days, as for Wolfgang Schnieder he has done a few mistakes in his books but you book was written by former members of the company supplying there own pictures so take that as fact it’s a 503 Tiger

Don, there is a feature on this Tiger that you have completely missed and it’s a very rare feature, let me know if you do go ahead with this build and I will forward the information, I have another picture of this tank but will save that for a later date.

THe Muzzle break looks kind of funny. In the picture I can't tell if it has a cover on it or not. If there is no cover on that thing then I would say that is your rarity.

Don,
Take advantage of what Mother Nature provides us with in the south. The pollen is still so thick that running my tanks in the grass creates a very realistic dust cloud. On top of that it also provides shading that no airbrush could acchieve. Want to know if you have has similar experiences. I know you talked of getting some pollen off the car, but this is applied as your tank really plows through it. Good luck.

Oh yes my Brother!
It is incredible. I put the KT back together just to run it in the pollen and dust. However here is what I did first.
I picked some areas where in my opinion dust and dirt would gather. At those spots I brushed on MICROSCALE Micro Kristal Klear. Then I let him loose. I did some pretty aggressive tankin....at least for me.
When he came back in after about 10 minutes. My weathering was done.
I am not talented enough to do what nature did. Now I did have to remove several "chunks that did not look right but other than than it looks great!
I even go brave enough to run it next to the holly bush. Just as I had hoped I got some very light scratches that went through to the primer.
Highly recommended method that anyone can do. Just remember to go light and makesure what you are running through is dry.

Ian the Tiger is on full combat tracks, movement by rail in Russia didn’t require the change of tracks as the rail gauge is wider than Europe this meant that the tanks just ran on and off the rail cars

RE: 503rd Tiger 1
The outer road wheels look different than normal.. Like there are no tires on them. The Germans standing around and sitting on the tank almost completely hide the front of it from view. There is another one lying on his back on the turret roof, trying to sun himself I guess.. They are all standing, leaning and laying around like they have nothing better to do. The last guy on the right looks like he is giving the Tiger a little inspection, a "tire kick". A kick to a tire that maybe isn't there.. Its not a good photo for examining details.

Hey Brothers,
The build has begun!
Trust me this will be a Tiger that you will not believe! Had I not seen the pictures I would have believed it either.
SHould be done soon enough.
