Phenolic wing tube bearings
The stock fuselage tube socket was getting loose in my GP Extra so I added phenolic disks to each side of the fuselage box. They really tightened up the tube and should never wear out.
Here is a sketch of what it looks like. The phenolic disk is in black, it is cut from 1/8" thick plate. It is 2" in diameter with a 1 1/2" hole that precisely slides over the wing tube. This disk fits inside a plywood doubler which is epoxied to the fuselage side.

RE: Phenolic wing tube bearings
Tom,
Can you re-post that picture of the socket repair ?
Also where did you get the discs ?
I need to tighten up mine on my Python 100 bottom wing.
Thanks,
Jim

RE: Phenolic wing tube bearings
My wing tube came loose from the side also. I cut out pieces of aluminum flashing for shims and wrapped them around the tube until the slack was taken up. You can tap the shim in with a piece of wood or light taps with a hammer. Just don't want to roll the edge of the shim. Then I put RTV on the inside of the fuse to hold the shims. It isn't visible on the outside.
