Mr Freez, Well done on the cowl mods, It helps me out heaps...ta. Wot gps readings are you now getting with the 105 and what length is the pipe set at????
I'm still undersided about cutting the cowl into a drag style or go the way you have with cutting the cowl around the pipe....decisions decisions !!!!!!!
Good job done, nice looking boat.
Cheers Scoot
Thanks Scoot!
The pipe is set at 12 inches right now per my engine guys recomendation, I 'll strart cutting it down from there. Just waiting for my props to come in and I can hit the water and get some numbers. I have bench run it, just because I had to hear the difference and it sounds much better with the steel pipe.
When I cut the cowl, I used the rear scoop as my cut line then trimmed a little where needed. The cowl gets real flimzy so you will need stiffen it up.

Don't think I have a 6719, I do have a 7018 and a 7020 with rounded tips, haven't tried either of these. The props I have been working with the most are the 2716 15%, 275 rounded , X670, 6717, and last was way to much prop was a x470.
I will keep testing and keep everyone posted, I wish I had one of the guy's I run with here to take videos, but just run to the lake and test.
I drive an hour to another lake tomarow to run with the guy's, I have a few pic's of my gen 3 hydro running. None yet of the falcon, have only had it built about 4 weeks.

Hey painman good to hear your accomplishment. From what i read on this thread you have a falcon/m5/257 carb (non-modified)/WTC pipe. I am a little skeptical that this set-up would achieve 72mph, GPS can have glitches, it has happened to me only once when it read that my .21 nitro tunnel was doing 57mph. I am NOT talking down your boat at all. In fact I just ordered a Falcon (red top/white bottom) 4 days ago. I will be running it with a stock zen260/257 mod carb/105 header and 2 inch hanson pipe/ not sure on the prop. I would be happy with my falcon reaching 52-53mph. =)

You may be right, about the GPS glitch, again I was surprised. But the boat was fast and just what the GPS said again I will be doing more testing and see if I can back it up with more runs. It was so hot and I was happy with the number. Again it is a new GPS, but they can be wrong as well.

That wouldn't be out of the ordinary. I ran 50's with a 1475 and then popped the 2716 and went high 60's without changing anything. But if the boat didn't look ALOT faster than it probably wasn't. I can tell you there is a huge difference between a 50 mph boat and a 70 mph boat. It will be really obvious.

For top speed stay with the 2716.

The 72 is probably an off reading. My best with that boat is a 71.6 and that's with a QDHT. I doubt you could get that with a WTC pipe. And like I said you will know it.

Your next major investment should be a Hot Pipe with a 106* header. One of these pipes would make alot more power. You could buy some phenolic tubing from Maston's and experiment with your lengths and milk every mph possible out your set up.

I hope the GPS was right. Even if it wasn't I am sure you will be popping the big 7 0 soon.

Good luck

Mine was radared at 49 MPH and still needed a lot of tweaking. That was with Sikk power but I'm still waiting for my new RCMK to show up. If it doesn't get here soon, I'm taking a little drive!

Well good to hear from Ron and Paul, as you guys know I already purchased a new falcon/stock zen/ 2 inch pipe/ etc, in the process of building it. About my Sprint Cat/SS/Hotpipe/2716, I took it out today for the third time with new "transom" windows, I rounded the tips on the 2716 a little, and lowered the strut like paul said "all the way down to the workbench table". And there was surely a difference, WOW! But guess what, I forgot my GPS at home! =( Remember last time it was hitting 63.0mph on GPS, well I am pretty sure i picked up 1-3 mph today or more, not sure. I'll verify next weekend. Just wanted to say THANK YOU, that sprint is Hauling! I will be using the falcon for heat and playing all the time in the lake hope I reach 50mph with it, and leave the sprint for "fresh" people in the lake only.... hehehhehehe that sprint costed some serious $$$$, I barely want to use it....... KEEP WORKING ON HER PAINMAN, I'LL BE NEEDEDING ADVICE FROM YOU ABOUT FALCONS IN A LITTLE BIT!!!!!!

Ron, what happened to your engine that you are switching it out? Oh, hence the w2716 worked good with the little mod of rounding the tips i did, I'll be sending it back to chris at dasboata to completly round the tips (i had just trimmed them a bit), he said, he would only charge around $10.00 for that. I still do know know what prop to pick for the stocker falcon, ANYONE???

It's sitting off to the side now with a flywheel problem that I going to see if I can fix cheaply. If it works, I'll pass on if it did or not.

Up Date, with GPS that is now swimming, Ha. After just getting back from the lake conditions not as good, glassy smooth with light drizzle, not even a ripple.
Put GPS back in boat with speed cleared to zero, and ready to go. After 1st run eager to see what the numbers where, needless to say it read 50.7 same thing it ran first run yesterday.
So it did not run close to 72.7, the way I have to run at my lake is more of a going away and heading straight back, because of the spill way.
I will continue to test, I have a 105 header and will give it a try before cutting cowl.
Now it is time to bring out the full Mod Zen with 105 header and 2" band pipe in my Insane Gen 3 Hydro, problem is, it is hard to lauch the hydro by myself so I will wait till next week end to put the GPS in it. I will let everyone know what kind of numbers I get from it as I have never GPSed it.
GPS's are FUN but can be disapointing.

well painman, yes GPS's are the THRUTH. They are pretty accurate. That is not bad at all for your falcon, I hope mine gets over 50mph, but I do not have the M5 mod. I will be using a modded 257 carb. If we find the super SWEET spot on these boats, I am sure we can hit 53-54mph, I have seen it done in an aeromarine conquest/stock 260/mod 257/2 inch pipe.

I ran the 50.7 with the 2716, rounded tips, with strut about 1/4" above spnosons, tried to drop strut down to level and tried again and was only able to run 49.5mph. I may have had a little postive in the strut when I dropped it, was trying to keep level, but when I brought the boat in it looked like it had a little positive. I have current setting marked, will try to drop before I go to the lake that way I will be able to make sure it is level. The 6717 ran nice, it is very close to the 2716 on the M5 upgrade. Think it's time from some cowl trimming and 105 header.
eengler, when will you have your Falcon set up?

Thanks Randy

You got that right, Ron how long have you been waiting on your s254, I have been thinking about one myself, can't beat the price. I will be glad when you get your falcon put together with the RCMK just to see how it runs. They are 5 hp. and that should really push the light hull pretty sweet. Have you already cut the cowl for the 106 header? I think that with the cowl the motor can't get enough air with the two small slots. I might even try to open up some air intake in the wind shield to see if it will help.

Thanks Randy

I already have one RCMK S-254 and the other is sitting about 60 miles away. They are a slightly different animal as they need a smaller than normal prop to get the RPM up. I'm still working on getting the pipe length, a good prop plus at the same time tweaking on a new boat.
I'm going to try the Profession Model (China) WTC pipe as that seemed to work well on the Sikk that was in the Falcon. It's really not a bad pipe for the price so far. It doesn't come on until about half-throttle but it doesn't just jump on it, just a smooth transition that usually only the driver will notice. With the RCMK seeming to need a longer pipe because of its exhaust timing the pipe may show promise.

Ron, what boat do you have the S254 in? Have you GPSed the RCMK, just want to find out what to expect, if I do decide to order one. The M5 really brought the stock Zen alive, and I know a better pipe will make a huge difference, just not sure if I want to cut the cowl. I just like to test and tune to get the max from what I have. To me that is as much fun as running the boat, always trying something different. The M5 upgrade is, I guess some what like the RCMK because of the rpm range and lack of tork. I think that is the reason that the 6717 seems to run good on the falcon.

Hey guys, update!!!!! I received the Red top/white bottom falcon yesterday. The finish is pretty nice, I already installed the strut and rudder. I off-set the strut 1/6 of an inch. It will take me about 2 weeks to build her, I have most of the parts. I will be running the falcon with ZippKits hardware/Bonzi zen 260with a modded 257/ 2 inch hanson pipe. Everything is brand new. I went on the budget huh? I hope to reach 50-55 mph. I have a prather 275, a round tip w2716 ( which i run in my sprint). I have heard that a 6717x3 with a 430 pitch should also do good. I'll see it i can put some pics together of my toys.

Ran mine earlier today, tried the 2716/2 and was able to run only in the high 40,s w/o cowl, wanted to make sure motor wasn't getting to hot and pleny of air. After several runs with the 2716/2 I decided to try the 6717/3 , and with just one run got back to the 50's as in 50.5 gps, loss .2 don't know how, might have to raise strut back up about 3/8ths to where it was at before dropping to level with sponsons. When the strut is lower the boat runs wet, raising just a little helps the boats lift.
Still havn't cut cowl yet, might just keep this as my play boat; or one of my play boats.

Mine is the ABC 6717/3 Voodoo prop, I think the pitch is 5.10 not 100% sure. This is the same prop that I run on my Hydro, seems to be a good all around prop. I also ran the Octura X670 not bad on the cat either, it is close between the 2716/2 and 6717/3. JMO

UP Date; just got back from lake, cooler air, mid 80's . Better than 96 degrees as it has been. First prop used after slight changes was the 2716/2 best after several passes best was only 49gps. Tried a X670 slowed the boat to 48.4 was the fast pass. Then put on 6717 ran best speed to date 51.2gps.
Thought I would see how much prop the motor would turn, put on a 7020 rounded tips with cup, way to much prop, took have the lake for the prop to get on the pipe. But to my surprise it ran a flat 50gps. So might try some of my larger props just to see what they will do.
Thinking now about the H50, heard a lot about this prop, is this an ABC prop?

Thanks Randy [sm=biggrin.gif]
