I can appreciate gas power since I am about to spool up a build on a 1000 kit, but as I have always understood it is this: gas performs well at a ratio of 17:1 air/fuel mixture, where methanol works best at a ratio of around 4:1. Again, I like gasoline, no mess with cleanup, cheaper. It just doesn't seem to add up in terms of performance. I may be leaving out some elements to the equation here, so feel free to clarify if I am missing something.

A lot depends on what you expect out of the plane. The US1000 is NOT a 3D type of plane, so its doesn't need a 50CC gasser. Also, air/fuel ratio doesn't mean much when it comes to running time. A US1000 running as large two stroke glow engine may run for 15 minutes max on a typical tank of fuel, while a gasser will run 30 plus minutes on the same quantity!
Will performance be the same? No, but again, it comes down to what type of flying you want to do for the type of airplane it is.
Being real general here I know but just trying to make a point.
And 14.7:1 is actually the ideal air fuel ratio for a gas engine(looked it up), but who's counting!
Could not find an ideal ratio for glow engines though...
Thats one of the reason I'm looking to re-power mine, going from an old and tired OS 120 FS (non-Surpass) to a gas engine. As mine is built and has been flying for many years, I'm not too inclined to carve the hell out of the front of the fuse though to make one fit, and in the end, a newer/larger four-cycle may end up in there. Still less costly to run then a two stoke glow, plus it sounds better (IMO).

[Balance was tail heavy . flew with a bgx 3500 which weighted a bit more .now rcg 26c is much lighter. trying not to add dead weight perhaps a extra batt up front. will post pics. added 13ozs to balance@ spar. total weight 13lbs. fresh paint and ready to fly! Anyone else try a gasser in it?
Im thinking a DLE 20 might fly it, but not very well.
What about a DLE 30? I have a Quadra 35, but thats kinda old and heavy compared to the current gassers on the market...
Should get one of the Brotherhood numbers one day as well!!

I am getting ready to build an US1000 and have a RCG 26CC gas. Specs recommend a 18x8 prop which will introduce ground clearance issues. Was wondering what size prop you are using with your 26 CC motor.

I have considered longer struts but not sure how much height I can get away with retracts and wing cavity. What is your thought about using a 16x8 prop with this motor in lieu of the suggested 18x8. I saw someone indicating satisfaction with a 16x10 prop on this motor, but not sure if a 16x10 will make for too hot of landings. Maybe I could offset the increased speed by adding flaps. Any thoughts?

No updates in six years 
Mine is still standing on a corner waiting for an upgrade. Been thinking about trying an RCGF 26cc. With its beam mounts it should work in the same mount I have in there though I will replace it with a better/newer one.
