That was an AWESOME video! You rock Jason!

Methinks my pile of coroplast earmarked for PBF's is getting PQHOR written all over it..........

After seeing Jason's video I think the PBF is a waste of time, unless you like it wild and crazy!

I'ved seen both the PBF and the Pqhor's fly............ and
they both have their redeeming values. Tell ya what, spend 5 bucks putting a PBF together, and try it. Bet you won't say its a waste of time, even if you have a Pqhor!!

Well, I've seen a few PBF's fly and some are ok and seem to be fun. But, I've never seen one fly as good as that pqhor in the video did. I guess when I see something I think will be better I have to go with it.

My PBF was a liitle more stable in hover. Once I got good at it and didn't crash from tail touching I would always "land" by catching it. It never did fly well straight and level, so all it would do was harrier around and do flat spins and toilet bowls, which is really really fun. The Pqhor does all of that and more. So Pinheasd, no I probably won't have a PBF at the fun fly, but I'm willing to put up any of my Pqhor's for combat with them.

Default I'm with Wade

Once you fly the PQHOR (I also presume that the QHOR applies here too, though haven't build one yet), you won't want to go back to the PBF. Realize that this is obviously an opinion / personal preference. As Jason stated, and I have also stated on other threads here within RCU, the PQHOR will perfrom everything the PBF does, and will not only do more than the PBF, but is also more predictable in all situations, and a heck of allot more stable. Once again, this is just my honest opinion.
(To each - their own!)
Kevin

BTW - I also stripped my PBF that I was using for full contact combat to build another PQHOR

What engine did you use on your pqhor?

Default Wade - Engine

Wade - I put a TT36 on my Awe-HOR#1 (the one in the movies I have posted on my website) with a MCM. It has a 32" WS with 32" length Aluminum C-Channel, seperate aileron servos (Hitec 225MG). 225MG throttle servo, and Hitec 425s for the elevator and rudder. Its 3-3/4 lbs FW.
Hope that this helps - Wade!

Sooo...what about a 32" wing with a 34" fuse, maybe get the best of both worlds? I'm going to start building my PQHOR tonight and after watching that awesome video I'm thinking about cutting my channel a little longer.

I want to be able to learn to hover with this plane while I'm building my OMP Edge, but would also like to do the wild tumbling 3D type manuvers.

Guess I can always try it at 34" and if I don't like it chop 2 inches off.

Will be flying mine with either my Irvine 25 or my 25FX with Ultrathrust muffler.

Also thinking about putting two aileron servos on it, one in front of the other, to get flaperons.

Jason,

I see you used 4-40 hardware. Is the flight loads pretty strong for the PQHOR? Thanks.

Default T Morelock -Watch Your Wt!

You better watch your weight if you are only going to put a 25 on your PQHOR. I would suggest that you go with a 28", no more than 30" with only a 25, and skip the extra aileron servo. You want your PQHOR to hover at 1/2 throttle or less (preferably - less IMO) to give you the extra power that you need for the radical 3D manuvers. You'll find that the PQHOR will hover easier than your balsa profile versions.
Good luck and Enjoy!

Well, I had left over 4-40 hardware from my AW Extra Profile. So I just used what I had. Couldn't hurt to have it as safe as possible though, especially when you are catching it from a hover.

T Morelock...would that be Tom? As in used to live in Wichita and combat with us?

Speaking of weight...Kraut's latest PQHOR with a Norvel .25, all HS-81MG servos, music wire gear and built to the specs on the Spad web site...only he left the controls surfaces 4" across (no taper)...came out to 3 pounds 4 ounces. It's performance is nothing short of phenomenal!!!! Hover's all day, beautifull torque rolls...but flies incredably light and flat spins slower and flatter than we've ever seen. We've now flown them with everything from the Norvels, to a GMS .47 and there is something to be said about the lighter .25 powered PQHOR as far as it's performance range. Mine, with standard servos and aluminum gear weighs 3 pounds 10 ounces (also uses the Norvel)...and that extra 6 ounces makes a HUGE difference. I'm hovering about 2 clicks from max...which doesn't leave a lot of escape power. I'm not a fan of micro servos...but I will be using them on my next one, and I also did some weighing last night...and going to music wire gear and foamy wheels saves 3 ounces.

Yep, that's me.....now living in Wisconsin.

Now I don't know what to do....I don't have a spare 40 size engine laying around, and my Irvine w/Ultrathrust is considerably heavier than your Norvels.

Oh well, maybe I won't be hovering this one. Still ought to be fun dorking around some other wild manuvers.

Hope to get it done in time for our club fun-fly this Sunday.

Wow Tom! Great to make contact again!!! Don't sell the Irvine short...it may not spin the rpm's of the Norvel, but it's got more torque and can spin more prop. Kraut uses a Irvine .25 on one of his PQHOR's and it hovers GREAT with all standard sized gear. I'm not sure, but I think he was using a 10 x 4...and the stock muffler.
