RE: WHAT SHOULD I BUY
Good luck with your discision on the HPI they have good on road cars, I have raced there cars before, good cars!
Welcome to the hobby, don't worry too much about how fast it is, I can tell you right now you will have a permi-a-grin.
Always remember to keep the motor a little on the rich side(smoke out the pipe), and if you are just bashing run 20% nitro it's not worth the difference to run the higher %nitro in the long run.
Run 20% nitro and your truck will live a long time, Byrons, Blue Thunder, a good name brand.
And always remember to HAVE FUN!!!!!!!

RE: WHAT SHOULD I BUY
You just need to get the truck and things needed to get it going. 45 mph no but it will make your a jaw drop. Worry about the other things later as you break and upgrade.
I started this hobby with the Savage X 4.6 and to this day havent found anything that can compare.

Just bashing for now. Just like to know if any hop ups are recommended for the future. Since I'm of new to the nitro seen I don't know what you guys would change after I get used to it.

RE: WHAT SHOULD I BUY
A stronger steering servo for a start. I replaced my stock one with a Hitec 645MG, but there are better ones available now.
Get a few spare spur gears.
Your driving style will dictate what breaks first, so drive a while and when a part breaks, ask yourself: "Was that a fluke accident, or do I need a stronger replacement part?"
You might want to shim your differentials although they should last a long time without shimming if you dont' do "stoppies" or land after a jump with the wheels spinning way faster than they should be. I'd just use the diffs as they are (unless it was a kit) and once the crown/pinion gear teeth wear down, replace them then with the bullit-proof ones and shim at the same time.
On shimming, my old RTR 25 gears lasted a long time, and I replaced them with one of HPIs hardened crown gear options as this was just before the bullit-proof ones came out. I shimmed at that time, but there was no room for side shims. So I shimmed the pinion forward to take up most of the lash. No problems to date.

Since youve decided on the savage you may drop into the savage monster truck forum. All of your questions can be answered there, and a lot of good info to be read after sifting through some nonsense
