Well. It seems that I had everything set up perfectly... but the Reciever was broken when I got it. So, hours of troubleshooting, and a $70 ESC (Thought I fried my old one), and the owner of the shop tells me that a radio I bought YESTERDAY (That's right, less then 24h ago), has to be mailed to the manufacturer to be repaired/replaced. And furthermore, he informed me that it is about a 3-week process. Man, all I wanted to do was fly.

So, About $1400 or so later, here I sit, staring at TWO helicopters I can't fly. (I snapped a linkage in my Blade CP when I was flying in anger).


Talk about being shat upon.

The version that HeliGuy has emailed out is basically a copy of the text several messages back... very useful (and very appreciated!), but it's missing the images that the document refers to.

The tea is correct. When I got the text, the reffering URLs were bad. The images were no longer avaliable. It's a good place to start, but by NO MEANS an absolute end-all to setting it all up.


Funny story.. I was setting up my MX400Pro, and I forgot that I had set the throttle hold switch to 100% when activated. I hit it, and my heli lept to life in my living room..

Now, the real sad part is, the Trex blades are WAY too thin for the MX400's blade holders, and no one in the greater Detroit area stocks any blades for the MX400. It's another week without a heli for me! Unless I change my MX400 to the TREX blade holders (I already have the Trex aluminum Tail assembly).

That's sad; so, how much damage was done to your chopper? I imagine it's prolly a little more than just replacing the blades...

Yep. I turned two blades into about 30 tiny pieces of balsa, some monokote, and a couple lead weights.

Hey guys,

Just finished the build and installation of my electronics for my Trex 450xl. This CCPM stuff is pretty complex! My Dragonfly 36 is much simpler. I have spun it up, but haven;t attempted to take off yet. The servos seem to humm a little when all the sticks are in neutral so I am guessing some rod length or trim adjustment is needed? I also have the DX6 with the stock servos in the Trex. I would appreciate if someone would email me a copy of the above instructions with the photos as I would like to make sure everything is setup right.

Your results with the stock servos on the T-Rex may vary. Personally, I would take them out and invest in 3 hitec HR-56's and a digital servo for the tail, like the Futaba 9650, and pair it with a good gyro. From what I've heard, the stock servos that are in the DX6 kit are too slow-- especially for the tail.

Thanks for the input! I am using a GY240 gyro which I beleive is adequate. As for the servos they are rated at .12 sec for 60* turn where the futaba 9650 is rated at .14 sec. Although they don't seem all that fast. The carbon fibre tail servo rod seems to bind a bit when it is stuck into its guide below the horizontal fin which doesn't seem good. I am not really all that impressed with the tail assembly overall on the Trex. I would expect more from a very popular and well engineered heli.

The servo rod should be tight, but it shouldn't bind. It seems at first that it binds, but if you have a good servo on it with high enough torque, it won't have a problem.

Also, the servo shouldn't be rated purely on its speed... the digital servos are very accurate, and work well with the gyro input. With a lesser servo, you'll have a bit of slop in the movement, which (when the heli is seeking a heading) could translate into a hunting mode, or tail wag.

I'm not saying that those servos won't work, but you really need a meaty servo on the tail for a good response.

Also, rotate the servo mount along the roll axis of the boom so that the pushrod lines up almost exactly along the boom itself; even though the servo may be at an odd angle, the pushrod will be completely along the line of motion, so you'll have one less thing to factor into its handling.

Good luck-- it really is a great helicopter!

If the radio (TX) seems to *toy like* for you then you can always invest a little more and do a conversion to a JR6102. There are plenty of threads around on how to do it. The Optic 6 and the Hitec 7 ch. radios can also be converted. The 6102 looks a little odd with the short ant. at first but it's light years beyond the stock DX6 in function and feel.

I have a question for you. I set up my Spektrum and my T-Rex and was going over your suggestions. I have the cyclic set to their default values at 60%. You stated that this may cause some "bogging". What does this mean? Should I change it? I've only flown it 3 times. Does the bogging mean that it will be more sluggish? Will it be more responsive if I go with your setup? Will it be limited in any way, maneuverability-wise?

Thank you for posting this information, I to have SE & DX6, almost completed assembly, the question I have for you, if you can help!! Is this radio set up for Mode1 or Mode 2, I'm trying to set mine for Mode 2 L/H Throttle stick on controller as this is how i've been flying my DF36 chopper and to change over now will be a nightmare to say the least!![:@]

Hi,

I finally get my DX6 for my Trex. I also get the settings from this thread but I have problem. First of all my heli is a 450XL HDE and I am kind of sure that these settings will not help. Can any one tell me how to set up the system for me please ????? I have 3x HS-56 servos and a tail servo+ Castle Creations 35 ESC + Align HH Gyro and a Aon 3500 motor.
If some one can walk me through the settings of this heli I will be very happy. I am so confused.

I would highly recommend the finless videos to setting up your T-Rex. Not only will you set your Heli up perfectly, you'll understand why certain things are done. Best to do it right the first time. There's always something to learn.

Also, if you''re a bit adventurous or you're thinking the DX6's features are a bit limited (you'll see what I mean), then go to this site and consider upgrading to the JRX6102-Dx6 hybrid. I'm ecstatic about my upgraded 6102.

Well after flying a Blade CP for the past six months and getting that down I am now in the process of getting a T-Rex 450X up and running that I purchased of Ebay I hope I didn't pay too much for a used heli. But anyway I noticed there were some heli flyers on this thread that use a 9C radio and I am hoping one of you can give me some help on setting my T-Rex up with this radio. My heli experience is an E-sky fixed pitch and now a Blade CP. At this point I can hover all day long with good forward flight and figure eights and pretty much land in any direction. I bought the T-Rex to advance to 3D but for now I would to start out with a basically stable machine good for sport flying.

I was going to buy a ARK X-400 but got to reading the threads and decided the T-Rex is really a better of the two machines that and the deal I got on Ebay I thought was a good price and pretty much ready to go.


The T-Rex I am wanting to setup for the 9C came with the following

T-REX 450X Helicopter
ALIGN MOTOR 2500kv...
25A Speed Controller
3 Hitec Servos HS-56 BB
1 Futaba S3103 for the Tail
401 Futaba Gyro
I am adding the Receiver which is a 6 channel GWS R-6N II

As I was saying the only Helicopters I have flown are RTF so this all new to me like which servo goes to which channel on a Heli I have flown RC planes for 20 years but this a different type setup for me.

Any help in this project I would truly appreciate... Oh and here are a couple photos of the Heli I wanting to setup throught this might help...

I've got the specktrum set up in my T-rex and so far so good! Only 3 position Pitch curve, but it's so far I haven't been able to notice a difference.

Oh man, there are allot. There is an awsome vidieo on Run Ryder for setting up the CCPM http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/gallery/17392/

Although it's not specifically for the DX-6 it is what I used to set up the copter. The settings will vary wildly depending on what servo arms you have and what model you are setting up.

What specifically are you looking for?
