RE: Fusion ARFs on the way!!!!
Hey Guys, the new Fusions are at the OMP headquarters and the first batch have been sent out to all the backorders. I have the first one in my shop going together right now and I got to tell you they are beautiful. I'm hoping to have it together by this week end. I have been really busy with a lot of other projects right now but I had to stop everything and start putting this one together as soon as I got my hands on it. For you guys that are getting one, you are going to love it. The covering job is excellant and the overall construction is the best I've seen so far. Good luck to all you new Fusion owners and for those who don't have one yet, you need to order one NOW. I have been flying my kit built Fusion for over a month now and I got to tell you it is one of the best planes I've ever flown. It does everything you want it to do and more with fantastic stability. This is the beginning of FUSION NATION. Be ready for it. Got to go for now. John M.

what engine and equipment did you use on your kit built one and what are you going to use on the arf? I just got mine (52") and have to make a choice between my YS 63 or my OS 50.
Thanks

Good report John, thanks!
Have you also flown the Katana and do you like the Fusion better, or just differently? They are not answering my email at OMP and I need to know if my LHS can order the Fusion, or if I have to order it directly from OMP and pay shipping....?
Thanks,
Ernie

RE: Fusion ARFs on the way!!!!
Here are a couple threads that compare the Kat 70, Yak 65 and Fusion. See posts #6 and #8 in the first thread. The Kat and Yak are full-on 3D planes, very high lift, and the Fusion is a Freestyle plane, with pattern and 3D capabilities.

Regarding email, Mike is on vacation in Florida and my guess John is shipping Fusions.
I'm pretty sure you have to order the Fusion directly from OMP. Very eager to see the 52" on my doorstep.

There have been a bunch of changes going on as of late so it may have got lost in the shuffle, Sorry if so. Of course the fastest way to get a Fusion is to order direct, but if you would like your LHS to order for you please have them contact the daytime sales # (937)-429-3056 M/F 10:00 to 5:00 or get in touch with me ([email protected]) and we can get them set up as a dealer.
Performance wise, I don't think you can compare these two birds apples to apples they both fly GREAT! The Fusion is a very crisp true machine with zero bad habits to it. Flys like a pattern ship but can still get down and dirty when you want it to. It is rock solid in anything you throw at it.

Thanks loads for the info. It was the last two of those email addresses that I used this week.....
I'll see if my LHS wants to become a dealer if they aren't already. You said all the right things about the Fusion! I'm in!

Ernie,
You won't regret the Fusion. I have had mine since November and it is the most flown profile in my fleet. I am running and OS .91 FX with a 15 x 4 W APC. Digital servo's all around and it is awesome.

Thanks Dale. Tell us about that nice covering job on your Fusion.... I don't think the ARF's were out yet then. I hope my smaller version will perfom similar to your 90!

RE: Fusion ARFs on the way!!!!
I recieved mine and im pretty happy with it but.. what type of covering is this it isnt ultracoat it doesnt act like ultra coat / ora cover or monocoat
What are the instuctions for working with this type of covering i think this is what some call china coat and i think i read some where that you cant treat it like ultra/ora.
i cant wait to fly this plane its lookin sweet i already have my first mistake in the assembly accidently glued the front anti rotaion dowel in one wing so it will stay there and come out with the wing hehe
gonna do an all day build day when i wake up and fly this plane sunday or monday

RE: Fusion ARFs on the way!!!!
Covering is Chinese version very silmilar to Ultracoat. We looked at many covering samples and this is the same covering used on most top brand ARFs you see these days. The days of the old china crap covering are gone. Colors match Ultracoat as I've checked them out. So this means you can get patch material at your LHS.

RE: Fusion ARFs on the way!!!!
I found my 52" Fusion on the doorstep Sunday evening - I think it arrived Saturday. Fast shipping from OMP - good job.
Out of the box, all the covering is tight - no sagging anywhere. Everything appears to be high quality, even looking down into the wings and through the covering. It all appears to be identical to the kit versions. OMP even added extra hinges right where you would want them.
I started tacking down a few loose corners and edges, and the covering reacts the same as Ultracote - use lower temps and don't overshrink.
Who's going to post the first build thread with pix? I want to make sure I assemble this puppy right!

I guess its OK to let the cat out of the bag now... My Fusion is the prototype ARF. Mine is the first sample that was sent over from China. Mike gave me the honor of building the first ARF Fusion back in December. Mine is a little different than the finished product. I have a cheaper version of covering and I did not get the cool OMP lettering on mine. It is built pretty much the same as the final version and I will tell you this, my buddies and I have been flying the crap out of this thing and have put it through every high stress manuver we can think of and it has held up great. My buddy Nick pancaked it hard into the ground a few weeks ago and all he did to it was mess up the landing gear. This is one fine airplane..

RE: Fusion ARFs on the way!!!!
Good report Dale, thanks. That's the 90 size one right? There is an ad for the small Fusion in the new AMA magazine. Funny they don't even mention the ARF, just the kit for $109.

Yep, the AMA ad was done via an interview up at Toledo. We of course told them about both kits and arfs but guess they edited it down to just the kit? Anyway...Yes we got ARFs too!

RE: Fusion ARFs on the way!!!!
I maidened my 90 Fusion arf today it 3d s great and they are right the precision is just as good the best profile I have flown ever
There is a weight discrepancy though my auw is 6 pounds 5 oz less fuel and spinner there will be no spinner on this plane clearly less than they advertised. I guess it was going to happen some time
For those interested the cg I used was about 8.6" ish no more than 8.75 from leading edge at root of the wing I used my fingers to check the cg with this I had to use a baby’s breath of ele inverted for level flight it was more like a slight amount of ele applied every 4 or 5 sec while doing a strait inverted flight
Rolling harriers slow knife edge and inverted harriers were to easy I did several rolling circles to check for the precision a couple snap rolls they were nice I couldn’t make the other profiles I have flown do good snaps like this one showed capable of
gear 5 5925 servo including 2 ele servor
1 hs 225mg servo for throttle
Saito 125 super sweet motor
APC 16/4w I would like to try a 16/6 but the 16/4 was great
jr700 rx
2000 mah li-on 2 cell
mpi miracle switch 6 volt reg
all stock hardware except i used
dubro control horns bolt type
dubro 1/8" axles and wheel collers

RE: Fusion ARFs on the way!!!!
By the way that cg that the manual stated of 8 to 8.5 to start was scarry. It looked way to far back lol but I thought if it was wrong that some one building the kits would have told ya and you would have changed the instr for the kit so I went with it.

RE: Fusion ARFs on the way!!!!
Mike, how can I get the hang of doing rolling harriers? Are you pegging the aileron all the way over, the using ele AND rudder inputs for each 1/4 of the roll AND a blip of the throttle when approaching rightside up and again when approaching inverted?
Thanks,
Ernie

RE: Fusion ARFs on the way!!!!
I do peg the ailerons and use the other surfaces to keep the nose up in the beginning you can lower the aileron deflection but this is a crutch when you start to get the hang of it raise the throw back up the more you do it the faster you will get with the correct inputs
I control the roll rate with how high I keep the nose. You can start doing them like point rolls but you will
need to be moving the ele and rudder in fluid motions. That uses both the ele and rudder at all times so when yours between knife edge and level wings you will need ele and rudder both to keep in a strait line and to keep the nose up
In short just use what you need to keep the nose up do them high so if you lose some alt you wont be destroying planes you don’t have to be low and close to learn the rollers.
Start off slowing down to almost a stall before you start the roll raise the nose then peg the aileron I started left when doing this start to put in right rudder then opposite ele then opposite rudder and so on. What makes the rolling harrier turn in a circle is putting the inputs from the rudder and ele faster rolls one way or slower then rolls the other way.
I think I put the throttle bleeps in near the same time but I don’t know when I just give throttle when it needs it. If I had to choose a time I would say when the plane is coming from inverted to knife-edge.
