I switched from regular oil to MC1 myself. I don't know about the other guys.

Everyone was also saying how clean their engines were after switching over to MC1. I've personally seen this myself with my 500. The piston was really clean after may gallons of fuel.
Do you mean switching from H1R over to MC1 ?

I run H1R 40:1 as per ZDZ, MVVS and Belray recommendations for 1 year and on 3 gassers :
H1R is for 30:1 to 50:1 mix
MC1 is for 50:1 to 80:1 oil mix

I do not understand why people always want to do something else than what manufacturer suggest for their own products?
Daniel
RCShowcase doesn't recommend any Bel-Ray products that I seen in their oil section at their website. Here's a link. [link]http://www.rcshowcase.com/html/accessories/oil.html[/link]

This thread is turning around. Rc_bucman has tested all oils last yeay and Belray H1R at 32:1 give less carbon build-up, no power reduction and good cooling. Choose what you want, i did my choice and it's H1R. The worst is Amsoil 100:1

Exactly..I asked if anyone has experimented with H1R at a leaner mix than 50:1..Im aware of RCBugman's tests but that really wasn't my question.[8D]

If Geistware would post the URL of his web site, all of the pictures are saved there.

I tried Amsoil and it's OK....but hard to find except by mail. I've used MC-1 for 6+ years with no problems and I get it from a local Harley dealer for $4.95....[8D]

Funny thing about manufacturer suggested products. In a lot of cases personal use, testing, and tear downs will tell the user a whole lot more than the manufacturer actually knows. Not too many r/c engine manufacturers run their engines enough hours to truly note what wear rates occur with various oils. Those that do can end up quite surprised at the outcomes. Often much better than they anticipated.

SS..so from your experience, mixing from 50:1 to 60 65:1 isnt an issue

I have for some time now used Bel Ray's MC1 mixed at 50:1, and recently posed that very same question to persons here that I consider knowledgable on this topic. All the opinions tendered were of the view that based on the quality of this oil, using any mix ratio within the recommended range of 50-80:1 would provide more than sufficient protection to our relatively light duty engines.

I have since switched to a 60:1 mix and have noticed a marked improvement in the amount of exhaust mess on my models.

60-65-1 should be a non issue. I'll be doing it with my personal engines when I get home again.

It’s just my opinion but I think that some engine mfgr’s state to use 40:1 mix to keep burned up engines from coming back for repair (and hence warrantee disputes = $$$). I personally would rather void the warrantee and go with 60:1 than have oil mess all over my nice clean plane. It's amazing that one mfgr will say 40:1 max and another will say go ahead and use Amsoil 100:1.

As far as the original topic of this thread, either of those Belray products are perfectly fine for our engines. Take your pick and go fly.

Yea your right..somehow I doubt a company can tell that you were running 60:1 vs 65:1 or 50:1 ratios..

Actually they probably can. When you do a tear down there are amounts of residual oil covering all the parts throughout the engine. The density of the oil film and the amount of color from the cleansing process provids a pretty fair indication of the ratio used. The cleaner the engine and the more transparent the oil film the lower the oil to gas ratio.

I have a new G20ei that I would like to use MC-1 oil. My instructions say:For oil, use a high-performing mixed lubrication type of 2-cycle engine oil and make the fuel volume ratio 1 (oil) to 25-40 (gasoline). Would I be safe to mix MC-1 at 1:40 ratio?

Thanks...Brian

Thanks JoeAirPort, I should have added my concern was the MC-1 says to mix at 50:1. I suppose going with a little more oil can't hurt.
Thanks....

Yeah it's prolly designed to run at 50:1. Any more oil and you just gunk up the engine and foul plugs sooner. Little more oil on the air frame too. Not a big deal though.

It's always best to go with the oil manufacturer's recommendations, and in this case several users have noted the tendency for MC1 to show signs of possible ring sticking when used at 40:1.

I use to use it at 50:1 but had some exhaust mess, but switching to 60:1 has cured that.

I have four gas engines and I have used MC-1 @ 50:1 from the gitgo in all of them with no adverse effect. Based on what I have read here it may take longer to break in but, as I said, no adverse effect.
