An open letter to Traxxas

RE: An open letter to Traxxas
I'm on the Traxxas forums a lot but I have to agree with you guys, some of the mods/marshalls there are rediculous.
I got warning points for quoting the person I was replying to. The person had said something about being "pissed off" (NOT bashing Traxxas by the way) and honestly I didn't even notice it. Apparently me using the quote function of the forum was a major no no there.
I really don't like the marshal that polices the for sale section either. He warned me for updating my thread to say that one of the items sold, so only the other was still available. He PMed me saying "You're not allowed to do that" and warned me that if I do it again I'll lose the ability to access the for sale section. I PMed him back asking what he was talking about and he never did answer me. I still think he PMed me by mistake and wouldn't admit it.
The worst of all is the so called "Ruler of the roost" over there. In the thread about the new Titan boat someone said something about people are not going to be happy about the delay of it's release, and the mod basically threatened him, and everyone else about saying anything about it. It was rediculous. I love my Traxxas trucks but honestly that has really put me off with the entire company.
I will say that Peter V is a very nice guy. He sent me a hat to keep my mouth shut when I did some snooping and found the BL E-Maxx on the site before it was announced.
Edit: You know it really wouldn't suprise me if Traxxas gives those of us using the same screen name here warning points for complaining about them on another forum. lol

I think the Open Letter is quite reasonable. And some of the policies on this site limiting forum content make no sense. I'm a happy first time Traxxas owner myself, after buying a Traxxas product (Rustler) in place of a competitor's product that broke after 8 minutes of very light use on the local baseball diamond. The wheel fell off. When I posted an accurate and fairly mild observation this in the forum for that manufacturer, it was promptly removed, supposedly as ''manufacturer bashing''. I have to wonder whether this site exists as a means of permitting objective discussion and the exchange of information, or as a means of selling products in an atmosphere free of any critical discussion.

And now only after the nice people in redcat forum section gave you advice on how to maintain an rc vehicle you run out and get a different brand; it's your choice but honestly even if a part did fail on your Volcano redcat would have helped you out and it is also possible that the reason for your Volcano breaking could have been from first time rc owner operator error.

But remember I said if. Not all places are my point was they own the forum and they can do what they want. If they wanted they could make HPI, Duratrax, and ponies against the rules to say, and label them as profanity. They own it plain and simple. Honestly people act like the freedom of speech in the Us constitution should apply to privately owned boards. No matter where you post you are at the owners discretion, and have to play by their rules plain and simple.
Go on blizzards wow forum and start posting how you find Guild Wars(just a name off top of my head mentioned in posts that were deleted), or some other MMORPG superior to wow and see how long it lasts.
When you make an account you agree to comply with their T&C for access I'm sure in the legal mumbo jumbo somewhere it has a field about posting other brands being against policy like alot do. Just some forums have more moderators who are more on the ball are better moderated then others.
Now am I a fan of draconian moderation no. I find it can kill off some good threads, but can I complain when a company is enforcing their T&C that you agreed to when you signed up to use their forum no I can not.

Check out attwireless.com & http://www.hipointfirearmsforums.com/Forum/index.php for just a few examples of answers to your question. If I were out and out bad mouthing their product, that's one thing. The moderators there take their responsibility too seriously.

Well we have to remember they own their boards, for help and solutions with TRAXXAS gear. Are they overboard with sensoring the word hellfire yea, BUT lets look at it in another light if you were running a forum for your company would you want people coming in and making posts about other companies products, some of which might say they are better than what you sell?
If you didn't know there are a few URL's and forum names you cannot say here due to the same reason
So in all honesty its their forum they use to promote their goods, for problems for their RC's, and you play by their rules. If you don't like it then leave there.

+1 and IMHO, the best post in this thread.
Bottom line, it's their house and you agree to abide by ALL of their rules when you go in, not just the rules you like! I left that fourm a couple of years ago because I got tired of being treated like a 12y/o - which is what most of their members are - so I quit going there. I did not whine and complain about being censored or having posts deleted, I just left. I agreed to their rules and when I found them too restrictive, I quit going. I consider it their loss as I can still find help here and give what little experience I have to help others here.
But to whine and complain about something you agree to, that I do not understand... You either honor your word or move on

RCUniverse has NEVER been power-hungry like many members have accused them of being in the past. They are, in fact, one of the most lenient forums ThunderbirdJunkie has ever had the pleasure of being a member.
If you simply posted "My new car's wheel fell off; what do I do?" You would've received help and well wishes. However, when you come in, guns blazing, blatantly insulting ANY manufacturer that comes across as extremely rude and disrespectful.
If you like rude and disrespectful places, try going somewhere else.

Deleting a post because of mentioning a different brand is complete GARBAGE!<span style="color: #ff0000"> Are they really that threatened by it?</span> It's not like they have to worry about being outdone with all their over priced kits or anything...weaksauce!

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt"><font size="3"><font face="Calibri">By writing the letter, I was not suggesting that anyone (including myself) should be considered “above the law” and not have to follow the rules. When a member posted a question about the Mamba ESC, he was told this was not allowed. The Mamba item that came pre-installed in his Traxxas vehicle, and talking about it on the Traxxas forum is not allowed? I agree with others here saying it is their forum, they own it and they do -and can do- what they want. But they don't seem to realize that they are making a total fool out of themself in my opinion by having such childish ways of moderating.

Why even bother with the traxxas forum, its like the worst out there. Its only purpose is to serve as help for traxxas owners, so they are trying to keep the discussion and small talk to a minimum. Its run by the biggest name in the industry... its not the mods who are strict, all the guidelines are probably set in place by the PR dept.

RE: An open letter to Traxxas
I'm going to go on record here and say that I am a member on the traxxas forums but I can't say for how much longer. I understand that the site belongs to traxxas and they can do what they like but I too have been given warning points for no reason. I posted an E-Maxx for sale in the forsale section and it was deleted and I was given points. Message I got was I was selling non traxxas items.... Are they aware they make the E-Maxx? When I contacted the MOD he refused to remove my points even after admitting he was wrong.. Seriously... Where was the MOD's head stuck that day..
The MOD's over there abuse their power and are almost comical in most of their responses. I shrug it off most of the time and I see it for the abuse of power that it is but I'm not sure how much longer I can take it. At some point the issues need to be brought to the attention of Traxxas upper management. Traxxas seems to be a well run company and I can't believe that management would knowingly allow this type of thing to go on.

Of course, "don't shoot the messenger" as they say. But being a moderator on scandinavias largest rc-forum and adm. on another forum, it would have been against my principles to get to be moderator on the trx-forum with their guidelines.
I bother with this forum because -as i said earlier here- the other members there have been very helpful to me. It is absolutely nothing wrong with them. If it was, i would simply just delete the forum from my bookmarks.

to: basketballfan60123 yea that sounds like chris all right. well i WAS using 3 dif forums, now that i found this forum i only need this one. to: b c consumer, when i first bought a traxxas i didnt figure out that if traxxas doesnt HAVE to make a part out of metal they dont. traxxas is a little like commodore computers. they make the most, and make them ONLY as good as they have to. at traxxas you wont hear a engineer say " if we did this it would be this much better". or "how much better can we make it?"

RE: An open letter to Traxxas
I agree with alot of peoples posts in this thread about how its there forums, they choose what they want to filter or not.
A few years ago (can't remember when) the traxxas boards use to be free and easy going as rcu, but this was before trolls and so many kids were on those forums. At one point there was only a few mods 3 i think? But once the trolls were born the forums went to hell, people were posting porn, cp, /b/, everything that should not be posted and it got traxxas in alot of trouble and since then they have cracked down hard. I can't blame them, tbh i'm still surprised it hasn't happened to rcu yet. Now there mod squad is on high alert, they don't feel it belongs then its up to them to make the right discussion on whats allowed and whats not. If you actually read the TOS you would see whats allowed and whats not.
I own my own forum, alot of people ask me to put in new sections about stuff i don't feel i want on my forum. Its my choice to what i want or don't want on my board. I don't want to attract more kids, i like to run a nice civil mature board. I know there's still kids but its not something i want to encourage.
Now with the issues on people not being able to say certain brands, this is something that traxxas feels should be filtered. How often does a pissing contest start over who's truck is better then who's or traxxas is better then losi. They want to keep the forums on the subject at hand, all things related to traxxas.
As for the guy posting about castle, i can understand why the mod did that and also why he should have left it. Castle creations joined up with traxxas to include there systems with there newer high end trucks, now traxxas can offer support but since they don't own, manufacturer they can't really do much other then have you contact castle themselves. Now the mod should have left it since other users in the community might have known how to fix the issues but he must of felt it was more of something you should have just contacted castle for.
Now with third party discussion about after market parts is something i fully understand why traxxas does not allow. They want you to think it has to be traxxas or nothing, why promote someone else product on our forums. You modify your truck it voids warranty and its out of there hair. They want you to customize your truck but with there products, how dare you talk about rpm arms. Again this is a privately owned forum who has the right to disclose whatever they so choose.
Traxxas forums are for traxxas and traxas accessories.

RE: An open letter to Traxxas
i have never used the traxxas forums. but from what i read i can see why some are upset
what i do know it that their customer service ROCKS!
i recently sent in a VXL ESC that had stopped working right(no reverse or LVC) i got this ESC used in a used truck. therefore i had no papers/reciept for buying the truck. in my mind, this means that traxxas owes me no warrenty.
however, i just recieved a letter today stating that they will be sending me a NEW esc and NO COST. i do have to wait alittle, as the VXL esc's are on backorder. but not only do i get it for free, but the one i sent in was not the waterproof version. so ill be getting one that is new and better than the one i had. all for just the $5 it cost to mail the broken ESC to them.
this is the second time traxxas has replaced a ESC at no cost, and with no questions asked.
oh, you know how they say that removal of the traxxas connectors voids the warrenty...i used deans. so i sent my broken esc in with NO connectors at all. but they dont seem to care. they are more worried with keeping their customers happy.
maybe whoever is running the traxxas repairs dept. should be running the forum also

RE: An open letter to Traxxas
From a third party's point of view.
I do not own a Traxxas.....I would like to, but here by my its a tad too expensive for me, including spares. but having read this thread....and laughing a couple of times, this is my opinion
For mods to delete a thread just because of the word hellfire, or give you warning point because of "certain makes" ....thats just plain childish. Come on....what profanity is in a certain make??......if they reacon its that bad, then what will they say when i join and start using some real good old south african expression words? Not much i guess, as that guy who is a mod wont know half of what ill be saying......but wait....there is nothing in thier T&C that says that you MUST only talk or type in English......US, or GBR English?

Dude....I say......YES THEY ARE, but then they should not open them selfs by selling MAMBA PARTS in a traxxas, and the moment someone asks a question, delete it. That is just plain dumb, and unethical toward your costomers, and future customers. In other words.......dont sell other brands that is not yours when your set on promoting your own brand.
A forum like that is basically not worth being on.
PS...if you wanna post some really bad words to that mod on the TRX forum....send him a letter in the mail....

RE: An open letter to Traxxas
btw on hellfire being censored
Is the word hell itself censored? some people consider that a naughty word and seeing traxxas is trying to appeal to kids and adults they might censor it to stay kid friendly.
Kind of like one game I remember that had the word mountain censored (seriously if you guys want to talk about draconian rules) due to it containing tai which they had labeled a derogatory term (but never stated in which language). Fun part was trying to communicate to your team members telling them to shoot over the mountain seeing it was a artillery based game... Funnier yet was the correct terminology for body parts were censored, yet none of the derogatory terms were. I quit the game cause I got fed up with having to say stuff like SHOOT OVER THE 2nd POINTY OBJECT to get my team mates to listen instead of 2nd mountain...

Traxxas forums are for traxxas and traxas accessories..........

Really that forum is not good for anything but general answers about traxxas products, want real help, non biases opinions go else where.

On the other side; i have heard a lot of good things about the customer service (never got to "test" it though), and they rarely hesitate to send you a new ESC if it is broken.

Are you serious? Tamiyas haven't improved a thing since 1980. Even their new models look like they are 20 years old, oh wait, they ARE 20 years old as they re-released their vintage stuff. They are sooo behind the times, it isn't even funny.

And obviously many more.

Type Hellfire there and it shows ******** in the dialogue box, so yes, it is the whole word.

Are other HPI RC names censored? Brama, MT2, Savage, Baja, E-savage, etc...?
As for tamiyas being 20 years out of date they have newer stuff just their old stuff is still very popular and over shadows it.
Hell some of their older designs are also built damn rock solid and can take more abuse than newer designs

RE: An open letter to Traxxas
I have not tried the word hell, and will not try either But i understand your point here. I don't think they have sencored other names, exept from Hobby King. According to them it seems like this is a threatening brand, don't know why. Maybe the batteries can catch fire or something. Or they are too cheap

That's what the phone support is for, the forums are a place to talk about everything traxxas. Bring up something that is not traxxas and feel the wrath of the mods.
