Aluminum, you are kidding or lucky? They are soft and not strong enough to really withstand the forces that good steel will take, I am surprised that the threads don't strip on a regular basis, are you flying electric or small engines?[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

They make aluminum prop nuts and aluminum prop hubs. I'ved used them plenty. Higley makes some good stuff. They are large and flat. I use the nut and the hub together to provide locking action on my large 4 strokes.

With them plastic inserts, you will have trouble tightening the prop. The bite of the nylon will just want to turn the engine before it's tight enough on the prop to let you really tighten it.

Kind'a stepped in it. I use prop hubs with hubs myself, I was thinking of aluminum nuts, period. The hubs make much more contact than a factory size nut and I have never had a problem with them if properly tightened. Personally I would avoid the small nuts on any of the larger engines, especially 4-strokes as they can really kick back.
I recently saw the results of a large gasser spitting off a 22 inch carbon 3 blade prop after it started with-out being properly tightened. It sheared the locator bolts, went about 15 feet into a sheet metal wall and bent the panel. Lucky no-one was in front of it......

I saw it as 'aluminum' also. Aluminum alloy is more accurate. Pretty tough.

We had a 4-cycle .91 kick and spit off everything ahead of the drive washer this summer. Hit my bud in the collarbone, luckily it was a weak kick-back and the prop had little energy so no injury. We all realized how close of a call it was, now we get behind the prop arc right after start-up.
