Well, it looks good but it is too dang big for this plane. The ailerons are so huge that the pipe interferes with them. I need a stick type plane to use this pipe. I'm looking for one.

Ultra stick Lite works well with a DLE30. There are a few guys here on RCU that has a DLE20 on the ultra stick 60. That is fun!

How about just taking an angle cut off both ailerons to allow for pipe clearance? Should be easy to do and you probably couldn't measure the actual small difference in roll rate that would incur, especially since the removal would be so close to the fuselage/horizontal axis.

Look up "bh Hanson". They have lots of different shaped headers. Maybe you could run the pipe strightdown the middle between the gear.

The Mac's header is not plug and play, it must be tuned for the prop and engine used...I took 3 or 4 inches off mine to get 1000 rpm more on a G26.....

OK, I've run into a snag. I started the motor up today with a Xoar 17x6 and with the pipe got 7600-7700, cut an inch off the header and RPM remained the same, cut another inch off and RPM remainded the same, cut a half inch off and RPM remained the same, cut another half inch off and RPM remained the same. So I put the stock muffler on it and got 8200. I was richening it up until it burbled at WOT and then slowly leaning it out each time as well. What gives? Am I not cutting enough off of this thing? The pipe is pretty freakin' long for sure.
Can anyone that has tried this combo, give me the pipe/header length?

The overall length of the pipe from the face of the piston to the high point (REFLECTOR CONE) of the pipe should be about 29" to run well at 8200 rpm.

Take a measurement from the plug, following the curve of the header, to the reflector baffle in the ES pipe. (Which ES pipe BTW?). This length should be no less than 27 1/2". I don't have a 20 cc but have done extensive testing on 30 - 55cc gas engines. I expect settings to be very similar on your 20cc. Resonant rpm is similar
I have stretched the pipe length (common prop load) as much as 10% with no real change in power, neither rpm nor torque. So one could run the pipe as long as 30" with no real output change.
For comparison purposes, 3 years ago I ran up to Todd Syssa's shop to check his new 180 out. Brought an ES40G pipe with me to test. We spooled up about 7 or 8 props that afternoon, ranging from the standard 18x6 many use on 30cc engines to a low of 17x10 and high of 19x11 apc. All were 2 bladers.
The 18x6 Vess turned around 8500 rpm on muffler, but 9500 rpm on pipe. You should see similar boost for the 17x6 you want to run

I'm going to have to stick with a 17" prop as I just don't have the ground clearance for anything bigger after flying the new plane this weekend.
Anyone have any thoughts on this plan?

I do initial pipe testing on a stand with a sliding setup that lets you easily change length even with the engine running. That lets you zero in quickly. I use a .25" wall high temp silicone tube.

Well, I don't think the header that I was using is long enough to start with. I'm using a Macs 2986 which was originally designed for a YS 91SR but just happens to fit perfectly on the DLE 20. The stinger outlet diameter is a bit small on the ES Composites pipe I thought. The EVO has a 1/8" larger diameter stinger outlet.
To do testing, you must use a really short header so that you have room to change the length with the silicon tubing.

I have the ES Composites 26G pipe.
That should be fine. The 120AX pipe is just a shorter version of the 26G. The 26G is a bit too long to work with a wrap around header on 20cc. The coupler ends up right up against the last bend on the header. With a standard side exhaust header there is only one bend so the coupler has more room.
Well, I don't think the header that I was using is long enough to start with.
Well, that's easy to test. The difference from inlet to first baffle on the 120AX and 26G pipes is 2.5" so your header will have to be shorter than my AX pipe setup.
The stinger outlet diameter is a bit small on the ES Composites pipe I thought. The EVO has a 1/8'' larger diameter stinger outlet.
That's not the problem. Either pipe will work. The 26G was originally made for the guys running the MVVS/Evolution 26. It worked great for that and it's 6cc bigger than the DLE 20. Buying a different pipe may let you accidentally stumble onto a combination that works but that's not the right way to go about it. You need to follow a systematic procedure so that you can see the results approaching that point you want to be at. Even mousse can setups can give great results. Haphazard approaches can give some improvement but without following a systematic approach you would never know if you have the optimum setup.
To do testing, you must use a really short header so that you have room to change the length with the silicon tubing.
It beats guessing.
I had the advantage of pulling a high rpm setup from a different 20cc engine so I knew I was already close and could add header length for lower rpm.

I have a 26G and an old macs header that maybe could fit the DLE. If the weather cooperates maybe I can give it a whirl sometime this week.
