We use the third channel primarily to toggle lights, my son thinks it's cool to turn the lights on from the radio. I use it on my 1/5 scale cars for the kill switch. I use it to trim the surface drive on my boat.

Are you trimming the drive itself or trim tabs? Can i see this setup? Ive thought about trying a 3rd channel trim on strut, but havent seen any kind of way to do it without adding alot of weight in order to have a strong setup that the force of the water itself wont try overpowering the servo, and still be able to make small precise adjustments (talking about on a 80+mph boat).

It may be in the lead but the overall consensus is that having headlights on a toggle is better than having on-board glow. It's also funny how two people are telling me to leave the car as-is, either option being unnecessary weight, despite never racing it. [&:]

lol yep. i don't see why you should get rid of extra weight if you just bash. its unnecessary and not needed to get rid of it.

Well, to be fair, onboard glow and/or headlights are unnecessary weight. The car will run without either. But again, I don't race, so the extra weight they bring isn't going to penalize me any. Hell it may help with traction, something I'm dearly lacking.

yeah i guess it would help with traction by weighing down the car. just a question, does an on board glow work as a spark plug? sorry i really don't know what that is.

All it does is embed the glow ignitor in the car. It's a common feature on aircraft, especially with four stroke engines that don't like to keep their plugs lit at idle. What it would do for a car is facilitate starting it even without a glow starter, all you'd have to do is toggle the switch on the radio. Far as the plug is concerned it doesn't know the difference.

The system I'm looking at plugs into the throttle channel, piggybacks off of that, and activates automatically at a given throttle setting. It would be trivial to just plug that into the AUX channel and tweak the setting until it's toggling properly.

okay so what it would do is you don't have to carry the glow driver with you? and i don't understand what you mean by you can toggle the switch from the radio.

Yeah. I could just flip a switch on my transmitter and light the plug that way, then flip it back off once the motor's running. I'm using a 5ch 2.4ghz airplane radio to control it, channel five is either on or off.

oh okay thats cool! but then wouldn't the glow plug driver be sticking out of the engine the whole time?

No, it wouldn't. On-board glow systems just have a small wire with a clip on the end. Just look at any Traxxas nitro, or any LOSI that has ROSS on it(Specifically, the Ten-T, you can even crank the engine from the transmitter!). Their electric starters require onboard glow to function, so they have a similar setup.
