RE: Which R C would you buy?
Don't rain on our waterproof parade [sm=wink_smile.gif] Most of us know about the extra maintenance involved with getting our trucks wet but as long as the motor, esc and servos are waterproof then the rest is just that, extra maintenance. It's not hard to disassemble a few things and replace a few bearings a bit more often for the benefit of being able to have some fun in the water.

RE: Which R C would you buy?
Yes ido understand that. But if you take proper care after every water such as cleaning it and blowing it off with an air hose then it shouldn't have alot of problems. But yes nothingis evercompletely waterPROOF. ButIMO it's still impressive to see the stuff that it can do in water!!! Even with the consepuences

lol waterproof parade, classic
Well u guys seem to know ur stuff, some newbys go a little Traxxas mad, some of them dont know about the required extra maintenance. Alot of new comers are scared to think out side the box or even pull it down for maintance... I totaly agree that if u are running in water its a must to have a aircompressor to dry the rig out and coat it with dry silicon lube.
My post was directed at mainly LaTuFu, wonder if magicly he will change his tune....

Traxxas Summit. Comes with waterproof electronics out of the box. Not super fast, but tough, waterproof, and they look cool too IMO.

Cool, well it seems some of u guys have had no problems.... Does that mean no one will have problems too?
I guess i will have to take ur work about LaTuFu, sorry LaTuFu no offence intented. its just I thought u would be aware of some of the non water resistant parts.
I have been playing with r/c cars for over 17years, with my first Tamiya. I now own 3 Traxxas vehicles out of 13 rc's, and have maintained & repaired countless traxxas vehicles for friends & work mates. I live about 900m from the beach & have bashes multiply cars in the Hard Sand, Soft Sand & water.
All 3 of my traxxas have had problems,
Rustler, Rusted out the Upgrade diff yoke over 6 months untill it broke, Sand ruined the Spur gear, Rusted out the battery terminals, killed ESC fan & everythingthat is metal is rusted.
Slash, The yokes are rusted & worn, sand got under a RPM gear cover, Suspension pins and castor block pins rusted up causing excessive resistance, killed ESC fan, Slowed down Motor fan, Noisy front bearings, and all the toe & camber links rusted.
Revo 3.3, Seized Driveshaft yokes.... only noticed on dissamble It still drove ok, rusted & snaped driveshaft pin, rusted push rods caused the ballend to crack, Sand killed the stock clutch, swaybars badly rusted, all the suspension pins were rustly causing resistance in the suspension. & i suspect that the salt ruined the drive shaft rubbers & cracked the tyres....
Most of these peoblems the average joe blow wouldent even notice, and most seem to be around Traxxas drive shafts, Tamiya & other brand shafts seem to be able to handle rust with out failing... Now they are all coated un dry silicon lube
I know there are heaps of vid on you tube, but have u ever looked on the other side of the coin???

Rember guys im just trying to open ur eyes to other peoples experance.
Im sure if I looked harder i could find more summit drownings.
If in doubt, call Traxxas and ask them if the ESC, motor & reciver can be submerged....
Its not reccomended & do at ur own risk... Wont be covered under warrenty....
But there are videos on youtube....
there are videos on youtube of petrol engines reving as hard as they can for over 10min, does that mean my engine is safe to over rev for 10min?
there are even videos of the traxxas spartain running on 6s of youtube... Does that mean its safe to run it on 6s?
U can even find vids saying the lunar landing was fake on youtube...
im only trying to help

RE: Which R C would you buy?
ahhh that might be a problem for u, the residue is the film that protcets the car... but unlike WD40, dry silicon's residue is not wet or sticky & actially repells dirt & water. its kind of like using candel wax to lubricate draws.
If u were to use standard wet lube that would attract dirt, but dirt wont stick to dry lube.
Ive been using Selleys Ezy Glide, I got it at bunnings. aparently Big W & K mart sell it, I havent seen it there yet. mind u i dident look that hard my kids were been little.....
If u cant find that, get any roller door lube or dry silicon lube... brands dont really matter

I have seen a tin of that Ezy Glide in my ol mans shed, I'll have a spray of it and see what kind of residue it leaves behind. My main concern with the residue is that fact that it's sticky so this stuff might be something worth trying. Thanks.

only thing avoide anything made out of rubber.....
No kidding Most roller doors say do not lubricate, because dodgy handyman use other products like spray grease, WD40 like spray oils...
then they wonder after a while why there door squeeks or jams up. Its because all of those products retaine dirt/dust and clog up the lube. And like u said all of those leave a sticky residue.
dry lube does not leave a sticky residue. and its the only thing that actually repells dirt, dust & sand. It allso protects plastics from UV light & stops metals from rusting.. win win all round

RE: Which R C would you buy?
After reading all the post and watching the videos, I guess my new summit will not be waterproof after all, I am sure I will have a blast with summit anyway and still looking forward to getting it. My question now is, If traxxas is going to spend so much time making all the electronics waterproof, why would they not go ahead and put the marine grease where it is needed to protect the bearings and other components that need protection, as in squirirel's video?.Iftraxxas is going to make a big deal out of the summit being waterproof, with all the advertising, why do they leave outa littlegrease and maybe an o-ring, that is needed to make the summit really WATERPROOF. IMHO, their advertising is a little misleading.....guesss I didn't read the fine print, Oh well, I'm off to the hdw.store, to get a tube of marine grease, plastic dipand some o=rings, oh and some silicone spray......Thanks againforall the inputand great videos guys,

thats it....fine print...
The idea of it been waterproof was so u can drive though puddles and splashes not river crossings and deep sea diving lol....
Make sure u get the right Dry Lube, not standard silicon spary.
Sorry guys to burst ur bubble.....
