I am considering buying one of these damn things just to beat around the house. I have grand kids who may get to take a run with it as they grow. I have mostly high end racing shizz and it kinda sucks to beat your expensive stuff up out playing in the street and such. So to me, I get to hear first hand experiances from a viewpoint in which I can relate.

I had a chance to go to Crandon Wis. to demo the "slash" with my local hobby store in 2008 when the slash first came about. A bunch of racers got asked to go for FREE to demo trucks at the tryout track in the pits at the offroad championships. It was a gass watching all these little kids chomping at the bit to get their hands on a controler! There were people of all ages in line to try these things out and as you can imagine, people were abusing them a bit. We did not loose one truck out of the line up all day the first day, and only one died the second day with an esc problem. I took the time to drive a couple of them and they were OK to me. They felt so washy and soft compaired to the race machines I am used to.

I have driven a buddies E-revo and found that to be pretty fun. Still felt soft and mooshy though and kind of indirect or un-attached feeling. Like I was driving it from 1/4 mile away kind of feeling.

I tried Traxxas, with a MERV, and it felt exactly like you described. Once I realized that it would absolutely require hopups to be worth a d.amn, I realized what Traxxas was all about, and sold it. Shame..., cuz their cars really are good looking. They're just mushy and poor quality out of the box.. Point is, they're not cheap. Might as well just let the grandkids bang an X-ray or Mugen or whatever up and down the street...

Not surprized by the feedback at all, exactly what I asked for............That was my expresion thinking about letting the grandkids bang an xray or mugen out in the street.


My grandson is 3 and is TERRIFIED of my Nitro's, they send him screeming like a little girl back into the house.

i have only had one experience with traxxas in the last few years, and it was a reasonably positive one. it was a friend of mine who won an e-revo brushless. as with lots of others in this thread the suspension on it stock was incredibly soft, so he had bought some alloy touring car shocks and stiffer springs, the rockers needed changing because he broke one in the first outing. the bumpers were destroyed after a while but he just cut them off. then he replaced all of the arms with rpm, because they kept failing. he drove the car hard, but not unreasonably badly, stuff you would expect from a monster truck. then he told me the price that he would have payed. £600! <div>

it took me approximately $80 in parts to get it to the point where I found it ok, and I still need a stiffer spring for it just my LHS was out of them the past few times I went in(I swear I put the pre-load at max and its still too soft).
I tried selling it, but when I got offers for only $100 (it was pretty much brand new with 10 mins of run time, and most the RPM stuff included along with the stock's unused) I gave up and decided to try and get it to a point I'd like it.
Things it took put in the center diff, convert it to 540 motor can size, and throw in a brushed tamiya 27t motor as I found it too squirrely, and hard to drive as brushless. For the record I do not find uncontrollable RC's fun that will flip from trying to turn it, or back flip from slight blips on throttle.


I think the pede 4X4 is probably traxxas's best RC currently as out of all the ones named no ones really bashed the pede 4X4 except for the sliders. I find its durability to be decent, and handling pretty good for a MT (specially when throwing in the optional center diff).

I really believe that all rc's should not require upgrades out of the box to handle the power its designed for. One or 2 small issues is fine but anything over $50 worth of upgrades is insane. No one likes surprises, they should raise the price if needed and have it 100% ready for action out of the box. But then there is traxxas, raise the prices but don't fix the problems.

Traxxas is the equivelant of a Huffy bicycle.   Just enough to get the newbs into the sport / hobby, but not enough to last the test of time or take to the race track. <div>

The Pede 4X4 does look like it would be about the best, but the damn sliders. I am thinking that maybe just a 2wd Brushed Pede would be good for the grandkids. Not so expensive that I would be so dissapointed when I get it. Maybe a Gravedigger 2wd brushed pede..........Looks good from this distance....anyone got anything to say bout it?

man reading this thread was about as fun as eating my own toe nails. (I know....nobody forced me to)

I'm not a Traxxas fanboy by any means, but I do own two models - a 2wd brushless stampede, and a 1/16th slash vxl.

The arguments I'm reading on this thread are so weak, it's actually quite funny. Slider axles are a big problem? Come on! I beat the living crap out of my pede, and the axles and grey plastic chassis are the only original parts on the thing. Never had a problem there. And the reason I've replaced so much was literally from doing stupid durability tests.

It was a long time before I burned up the original titan brushed motor. It was about time that old thing gave out.

I've had my fair share of unreasonable occurrences with Traxxas vehicles, but nothing that I haven't had with anything else.

My suggestion for Traxxas: Make vehicles more adjustable. That is all. to each his own.

Experiences on a light 2wd pede do not equal the experiences on a quite a bit heavier 4wd pede/slash specially when using a 1/8th motor/esc setup that produces more torque cause the 1/0th setups are too strained in it.

As for the titan 550's it seems they are like russian roulette sometimes you get one that works excellent (like you and my nephew(who still has the stock titan with a yellow xl-5)) other times you get one that will burn up in under 5 runs (like me, and a pile of others)

No problems with my sliders on my revo 3.3, 90a rustler and a 35a slash...
Wonder how bad the problem really is? 1 in a 1000?

ok the 3.3's initial torque is no where near a 120A BL motor's. Hell a .28 on a 1/8th scales no where near the initial torque of a BL motor. When the majority of the stress is applied from a dead stop things start to warp, and give out.
The other you listed are rwd that are lighter, smaller motors, and have smaller tires to boot so less rotating mass...
Also it depends what tires you are running, and what kind of surface you are driving on as if you have high traction that puts more stress on the shafts.
my sliders haven't broke yet but they are warping.

I do know for a fact they can handle more torque than the Tamiya splined diff cups or the dog bones with plastic tips.

I think the sliders are a great design, very little backlash, if only they were stronger to keep everyone happy...

well its funny you mention tamiya the argument about the sliders reminds me a lot of what people say on things like the DF-02, and TT01e's center shaft. I have mine on BL power, with the stock plastic center shaft for over 2 years, where others they snapped them in a few runs, and had to go to aluminum ones. On the other hand I did break a diff cup and went to steel where others have great success on BL with the stocks.

Won't argue they are an interesting design that solves dogbones binding, and allows them to use the same part across many models where most the CVD or dogbone are model specific.

Lose the 4tec, "exclusivity sponsorship contracts" and drop the rustler and bandit im in full on agreement with.

Traxxas will NEVER drop the maxx trucks but keep "updating" them much like hpi and the Savage. I currently own a E-Revo (brushed) and its one of the best RC's ive had. The only thing I wish they did was spend the extra $15 and use stainless screws not the insta rust crap it comes with. I was hoping trey would make a new 4tec but the world of onroad is pretty much gone [&o]

A traxxas "kit" version of anything would be nice to see for once but to me even after owning a few other traxxas vehicles, they are the perfect hybrid of target vs hobby grade rc.

see im a losi guy, IMO they dont have any lemons... and the Losi 5ive is the most fun rc car ever...
