You could mix a little down elevator in with your throttle 1 or 2 percent and see if that helps.

Ballooning or tail dropping? I think there's a difference (at least to me).

Ballooning appears that the plane actually goes up due to increase in speed/lift. Tail droping appears to me when a plane is tail heavy and it slows down like on a landing - the tail will drop and point the nose up and then the plane will climb till it runs out of airspeed or you push it over.....seems small but it's different.

Well, I flew the Aerotech today and ran some experiments.

1> Flew 45% upline hands off ... more or less held its attitude
2> Flew 45* downline hands off ... wanted to climb slightly required no down elevator to hold
3> Inverted slow pass to full throttle... climbed slightly

So I landed and put 6oz of lead on the firewall and flew again.

45* upline and downline are fine and no change on throttle advance
Inverted flight took slight down elevator to hold..
Landing was simple with no attitude change..

I guess it was tail heavy. I have ordered an aluminum spinner and Bolly prop to weight down the front end. I noticed no performance loss by adding the weight.

I will try it on the CA this week.

Good to hear. I think you will find that your rudder/elevator coupling should have changed as well.....down lines etc

I am currently flying the H-9 1/3 Cap 232 and i have the same thing happen when i cut the throttle just before the runway, the plane wants to balloon, most of the time it isn't much and it is never a real problem, when I first started flying it it seemed real weird, but I have learned to just give some down elevator for a bit and once it is pointed down (no longer ballooning) it lands perfectly every time. I also have to give some down elevator on a 45 degree down line though as somebody indicated making my plane nose heavy (which it is just a bit) but the plane should be tail heavy to cause the ballooning? I don't have an answer either but rather than programing electronic to take care of it I just use my fingers as it does everything else great. I love the plane, awesome

If you have to give down elevator on a 45 downline, your plane IS tail heavy. I think you have been mis informed.

A better way to check your CG is a 45deg up line because you are 'hands off'. It should start heading towards the ground. Once youare happy with your CG then it is time to check your up/down thrust.....etc

Search 'trimming chart' and go from there

You are right.. I suffer from dyslexia so up is down down is up... fortunately, that does not happen when the sticks are in my hands... at least not yet!

Hey Buzz.. that is what I have done. The first plane I adjusted CG on does 45* down perfectly. I think up/down thrust is OK as I can fly full throttle and cut with no pitch change. Same thing going from idle to WOT.

Reading the trim chart while flying is not too easy..

dp,

You are correct in your upthrust thoery. There is a publication I read and worked out the same concern with my corsair. The prolblem occured regardless of cg fuel anything. I think it was increasing upthrust I could be wrong. If you need to know reply to me and I will look for sure. If you already fixed it let me know what did it. Brenden
