Hey guys.

I've enjoyed reading and looking at the ideas. I need to build a rack in my 5X8 tailler. I like the PVC racks.
If I made a rack for the tailer with the braces running from one side to the other what kind of weight could it hold?? I'm hoping about 30lb
I would greatly appreciate other Ideas and pics..

At the end you will see a pic of my trailer with the adjustable shelving racks on the side(and cubfans). If you use them be sure to get the double slotted ones, they can hold more horizontal weight. The racks I used (can't remember the name) are rated at over 100lbs of vertical force. That's plenty of support.

The reason I choose the double slots is for added support during heavy braking. I felt the single could bend/flex or snap to easy(based on my driving).

I missed this post last night, sorry. I tried to find some 1x2 but I think these are around 1x4's, and then just added piping insul over the tops.

Hey Magnum.

Where did you get your check flooring?? I've called Home Depot, Lowes, and several flooring stores around Birmingham and no one has any sheet vinyl check flooring. Lowes has the 12X12 stick down tiles.
I may go with that since I think the tiles are a little thicker than the sheet vinyl.
Also, how did you prep the wood??

I got the 12x12 tile from Home Depot for about $20 for 45sq ft if I recall correctly. One box should do your floor, I need to go back and get another.

These tiles were not very thick, but should stand up to rolling a mower over them if needed.

Prep the wood? You have to do that? I was in kinda of a hurry, and I just wanted to get something down to keep any fuel leaks from getting into the wood. I just sweep the floor and stuck them down. They will come up and crack soon I know, but they were cheap and quick.

Thanks for the help. I thought the tiles were a little thicker than the sheet vinyl. Why do you thik they will come up and crack??
As for preping, I just thought that I would sand the high areas and fill the dents from the bolts.

There were some guys up here from B'ham last weekend, brought some nice planes.

My trailer had c'sunk heads, so that wasn't a problem for me. But yes sanding would help(mine still crunch when I walk). I was thinking mainly from the heat stand point, that a couple of days of our heat, could loosen the glue, maybe not.

Be sure to add a vent to that trailer as someone on the other post also suggested, if you leave your plane in there.

Hey Magnum.

I was gonna try to send you an email but I couldn't send it through RCU.
I went to Lowes and picked up my flooring yesterday. I was also looking at the adjustable shelving but I couldn't find any brackets that I could bolt the wood racks too.
Where did you get yours??

I use automotive belt hangers that are mounted to to basement ceiling studs. they are adjustable, and if you have room you can keep the wing on .

I used 1x2 and drilled 1/2 inch holes every 2 inches, cut my 1/2 inch dowel rods to 12 or 18 inches and stick them wherever needed in the rack, it's easiest to put the 1x2's together and drill through both boards at the same time on a drill press, the holes line up perfectly that way.

I just made some hangers out of pvc pipe today. Used 1 inch pipe and used 90 degree elbows to form sort of a "C" to hold the fuselages. Came out great...will get some pics with the digital camera tomorrow maybe.

The wing rack I built is in this thread somewhere and for the price and speed to make that it's practically the only way to go. No drilling or anything...just buy a pvc pipe cutter for 10 bucks. The 1 inch pipe is like $1.50 for 10 feet. use the pvc glue and it's impossible to break apart.

Also built a cradle out of the stuff...I'll get some pics of that too...I've gone PVC mad!

After reading all of the entries here, I finally got the PVC pipe, cutter and elbow connectors and made a very simple rack ! Believe me, if I can do it, ANYONE can !

Here are the pvc hangars I made for the fuselages. Hung from the ceiling beams in the basement. Real simple to make..just 3 90 degree elbows and 3 pieces of pipe for each one that comes down from the beams (double this for each plane as you need 2...one for nose and one by the tail).

At $1.60 or so for a 10ft piece of 1 inch pvc how can you beat it?

Even though a month has past since the original post, and polaris has alredy duilt his, here are the pics of mine. just in case someone else wants to build one. I put 2 2x4s vertical and drilled 13/16 holes every 3 inches. this way i can rearange the poles for new planes.

That looks good and its probably the cheapest way to go. You might want to get some kind of padding to put around the bungee cord though. It looks like they might do some damage to the covering.

You could be right but the bungee is very soft and does stretch however I could maybe glue some spoung padding to the cord. *shrugs*
