I'm getting a Savage X SS4.6 though, not just a regular 4.6 THAT, my friend, is why I'd sell it. Besides...I'd be helping somebody else get a GREAT deal on a SLAMMIN truck

I did a Google search and found lots of references to Savage planetary gears, but apparently they are calling all of the Savage diffs a planetary setup. I think it's still the same setup as before.

What exactly are planetary gears? I know Traxxas says the Revo has them and I went to their web site and looked at the manual on the Revo. They did not look all that different to me.

It's the last example on the page
You have the center "sun" gear, and the "planet" gears rotate around it. They mesh with the outer ring gear. It's a VERY rugged design depending on the quality of the gears and cage(or arm).

Thanks for the link and a picture is worth a thousand words! I have seen this set up before but did not know the proper name. So after looking at that and the Revo differentials they do not really have planetary gears either!

OK for the time being...I decided I'm keeping my current X. I'll wait until after Christmas to get the SS if I get one, and still keep the current X.
SO i've decided to do a little more work to my truck in the meantime.
I was wonderin-anybody tried the Hot Bodies center driveshafts? how well would they hold up to my SH .28? any clue-Chronic, I'm looking in your general direction:P

I've never used the HB bones that I can remember. My LHS owner swears by them... but he's also a big Truckzilla fan...

I agree with Chronic on the Revo's durability. I race every weekend and every weekend there is more than one Revo that does not finish the 5 minute qualifier because of a broken this or a broken that. It has been a long time since something caused my Savage to not finish a race.

Actually I disagree with Chronic about the durability of the Revo. I owned one prior to having my X (because the old Savage was a huge PITA to work on...I wanted one, but didn't want to work on it, LOL) and after a few minor mods, it was pretty damn tough. Not as tough as my X, but still pretty dang good.
