Default trailer

Magnum,
I got the pictures I said I would get for you. I think I finally got them resized to post. I was reading the other post about the different types of suspensions. My trailer has the leaf spring type under it. I have had no problems with it. I prefer the leaf spring over the torsion bar type. They bounce less. You can tell by the planes I carried some of the small ones out last week haha Cubfan

Magnum,
I finally got them resized. Here is one of the front. I have some more with better detail of the racks if you want me to e-mail them to you.

Default Transporting Planes

Cubfan,

Yes I would like the pics, if it is not to much trouble to send. Send as many as you like. I will PM you with my email address. I would love to see how you have the ends mounted.

I can see now why your ID is "cubfan".

I did find a 6x12 at Lowes with a drop down back door. Don't know that I would need it for planes. But nice to roll my field box into the back with.

I can also tell you have everything strapped down to the floor of the trailer, better that way I feel.

I think a little combinatino of everybody's ides and I will home free.

Thanks!

Default Decision is made

Thanks everyone for your inputs. I have already picked up my trailer and installed shelving. I used double grooved racks for the side strength in heavy braking. Also used pins to mount the wood to racks, for easier removal.

The checkerboard floor was installed by my 10 year old nephew, I just need to do the trimming.

Anyway, now off to add electrical and tie the shelves down to the flooring somehow.

Thanks for the ideas!

Default LITE TRAILER

Here is the finished product. This is the trailer frame I purchased from Northern Tool for $159.00 plus tax. The rest was built with treated wood on the floor and framework. Sides are 1/2 ply and the top was made with 1x6's to make the formers and the top is 1/4 lauan ply. I used a harder piece of 1x2 pine on the top of the framed work to get a better sealing surface to the lid. I had to use 2x4x8 studs on set on side to get enough clearance over the fenders. I counter sunk holes at the apropriate spacing based on the holes in the frame then set the treated ply on the frameup. I then built a frame on that. Notice the power plug on the side for my chargers, hot wired direct to battery so charging will occur even when stopped. And the drop down tray on the lid, holds my Cap wing and half wings for my pattern plane on top of that. I used light chain to hold the tray.
Total cost for project including hardware and paint about $400.00

Default ANOTHER PIC

PIC showing the lid and wing arrangement. Flip down panel will hold 2- half wings and my Cap wing underneather. Just used foam pads to isolate the wing and bungies with foam tubes over those.

Pics of my modified pop-up are on my web page here: http://www.********.net/pages/tmills/page4.html . Light weight, rides good, pulls easily.

Toymaker

Good job on the trailer!!!! Beats the price I paid for mine bigtime

I still need to do the battery connections, and add some 12v interior lights.

crash and burn,

Haven't given up totally on the van, I could still use one to pull the trailer

Nice setup, I have a couple of smaller planes I plan to strap on the side of my trailer like you have on the side. Good layout.

Tim_Indy,

Nice trailer also, did you make the storage area cabinet? I have talked to a friend of mine who said he could build a few cabinets in mine like that. Would be cheaper if they were purchased though.

Default Transporting Planes

Crash and Burn,
Like the van!! I thought about one also but since I live just across the GA line below Chatt. The GA law says you must carry insurance on all vehicles I couldn't see keeping insurance on a van that I would only drive once every week or two. The trailer is covered by the tow vehicle and here the tags are valued on the worth of the vehicle. It would have cost too much. The trailer only cost the minimum for tags about 12-13 dollars a year.
