Is RC car racing a sport or a hobby?
#26
When I watch people like Ty or Adam race I know this is an art and a science and therefore there is much study and practice that goes into being at that level. Its definitely a sport in that regard. But also a great hobby for so many who aren't lucky enough or skilled enough to enter that level of RC racing. I will always be hooked.

I'd like to add that RC can also be a lifestyle. Some guys are total addicts, living and breathing RC every day of their lives. I think to them it feels like more of a sport in that aspect, while a hobby for the less intrigued.
People also have offroad interests which I think classifies as a sport. Rock crawling has become huge over the last 10 years and Axialfest gets bigger and bigger every year. Even though Axialfest has some contests and prizes, it's not on a largely competitive level. There other events that have high levels of competition and big stakes, as well as a comp industry for such trucks. As far as RC in it's entirety, plane/glider/heli shows pretty much always feature a big competition. Hundreds come to see and fly in these shows/comps. RC aircraft piloting definitely should qualify as a sport.
Like you, I'm sure I'll never grow out of RC...

WHo cares if it's an old thread. Someone got interested. Anything to keep people coming back!
Lot of good points. I agree, if you're keeping score, it's a sport. But I also agree that RC is FAR from aerobic. I'll tell ya what, tho, after my buddy and I have spent the day from 11am till dark chasing each other around my track, we're pretty tired from all that concentration.
