Well i notice it quite a lot. Is it because i have an AM transmitter?

When i got my first savage i wanted something like that because when i was younger all my radio scrap RCs had remotes like this. The guy at my lhs advised me against it and told me "get used to it its the best" so i did and i wouldnt go back. Anyways arent those more for planes?

They are for planes, but they can be used for surface, and it is a matter of personal choice. Some people prefer that type. I personally think a sterring wheel is the way to go as it is easier to judge how much you are turning the wheels.

I'm not being biased or anything, no they were originally designed for surface.
But i dont like pistol grip, i never have i just like the sticks much better, the whole layout is good and easier for me.

Anyway the discussion was about delay, and i get delay lol.
Can anyone explain the advantages of an FM radio, i dont see whats so good about them except you dont need crystals and you can program trim etc for each model. I dont know if that applies to all FM radios though.

You need crystals, some more expencive ones have more than one model memory, but not the HPI ones.

Thats it. 2.4GHz is the best. Automaticly finds a free frequency, so not accidents!

2.4GHz is it self. You have AM, FM and then 2.4GHz. The Spektrums are 2.4GHz.

So the only advantage for 2.4ghz is it automatically finds an unused freq?

Also, do you think 2.4 ghz transmitters will come down in price soon? And are there any other 2.4ghz transmitters other than the Spectrum?

One of the best advantages the 2.4ghz IMO is the short antennae, its so short that you can keep it under the body so no more wires getting ripped from the rx.

To be honest i wish i would have gotten a spectrum instead of the JR XS3 but i got the XS3 with a savage i got on ebay and considering the deal i got the remote was basically free. I might sell it and put the money toward a DX3, it does look like its the best on the market these days.

Yea i might get one. Although i'll need some serious practice with the stock savage control, but not on my savage, i'll use it on one of my pooey cars lol, as i will most likely crash a few times.

The spektrum DX3.0 is what I am getting. It is 2.4GHz, and at £160 it is a bargin. If you consider what it comes with:

TX
2 X RX
Standard torque Servo
High torque servo

The RXs for it are £75 EACH. It includes 2. Thats £150, so that basicly means you get the servos and TX for almost free. The servos will get you by, but they are not the best. The only thing is it is a pistol grip, I like them, but you dont, so... Thats the best one for me.

I like the DX3.0 more. That one is more expensive. I wont use 1/2 the funtions on my new DX3.0, let alone all the features on that.

I do realize that you're mostly speaking to someone else in the UK but for those of us in the States (North America, I think), that radio would not be legal to use for any purpose.

I have never heard of 40MHz, even in the UK. 27 and 75 and 2.4GHz is all I have heard of.

Well for such a high tec control, you would have thought the DX3 would use something better than 8 AA batteries, and it doesnt even come with a charger, you have to buy a special Spektrum charger seperate.
So its not that much of a bargain.

8 Rechargable AA's are cheap. You can also use a £3.99 plug to use with a BMI charger to charge them.

i charge my spektrum with my quick charger im sure you have one of those right. but anyways i have a spektrum 3.0 because i meet up with a bunch of guys at this parking lot and before i had to ask what color crystals they were running now ill i have to do its turn my truck on and thats it

oh and i use venom 2400 batteries on my sektrum they last for ever and i rather AA
batteries then a flat pack!

I do not use the stock radio; the TF3 that comes with HPI Savage RTRs suck. Well, they suck when compared to my other radios. I purchased a TF4 to get 3channels, I don't know why I did that since I have TWO Futaba 3PKs. Right now, I have the Spektrom TX and RX kits (one module and several receivers for my RCs) and it is great having them under the control of one radio.

Since I have 2 3PKs, if one should fail, I can bust out my second 3PK while I send the first in for servicing.

Also, even though I only bash with my Savages, the 3PKs have race grade functions I personally cannot do without that cheaper radios do not have.

I totally love the 3PK and would be seriously heart broken if both of them went down on me.

I was talking to this guy at school who is apparently 3rd best for his age group in the UK for electric RC.
He said those controllers with the sticks are not for aircraft as someone said they were in this thread.
He also said not to switch controller type now, he said the type of controller you started RC with is the best to use, and you will never be as comfortable or as good using a different type.
One last thing he said, the Spektrum isnt that good, the controller feels cheap, you cant adjust it and its uncomfortable. That said, he also says the module is good, and the technology but the controller itself is bad.
Can anyone advise a good stick-style transmitter on this webpage please:
