I was tired of going slow, so I switched to electric.
Ya, electrics are wicked fast.

Hmmmmmm, I'm not sure if you guys are trying to be intentionally misleading or just trying to be funny.

The fact is electric can be way faster than nitro and way quicker too.

"Can be", being the key. 80% - 90% of nitros are faster box stock than box stock electrics. And making an electric fast is not an inexpensive proposition.

As most of the unbiased opinions have said, neither is better than the other. Just different. Past that it's personal preference.
I'm glad you made that point that they can be but mostly aren't. How fast do you want to go? How much money do you want to spend? Nitro or Electric. When I originally got into this hobby racing 1/8 on road nitro, electrics weren't anywhere near as fast back then. But electric technology has evolved over the years and if you want an electric to be faster than a nitro, you will probably have to spend more money than a nitro too. Plus electric still get slower as their batteries drain and nitro you can just refule real quick.

Great, point. In my experiance, i much prefer nitro, i just seems....[&:]..... ''better''. i dont mean better but there is a word close to that and i just cant find it. Anyway, with nitro, tuning can take the mick, but once its done you ''dont'' have to do it again (it may take alittle tuning every time you take it out but not much unless you ALWAYS want the best performance). im just saying in my experiance nitro is just always there when you think...hmmmmm yeh i want to take my car out, and wehay your ready, but with electric you have to wait for the bloody bateries to charge

Please dont bother arguing unless its mega important because i know what you electric people will say, I HAVE BOTH AND ITS ABOUT 60:40 to nitro. Nitro also sounds cool and smells cool and feels like its going faster because of the noise, lol (its true i think)

Lithium Polymer batteries dont get slower, and I can "refuel" an electric very quick as well...

Lipo's are some kinda cool arn't they. They maintain performane right up to the end. Kinda hard to get used to not trying to eek that last litle bit out though. One they show a drop in performance, it's time to stop though. Too bad they blow up every so often. Oh well, everythng's got a downside.

As long as your running a Low Voltage Cutoff you should be fine. FMA sells one for around $20. As for the explosions, thats 99% of the time user error, mostly overcharging. After all, over-charging any battery can be harmful, Li-po's just require a higher maturity level. I will state I dont use ni-mh's anymore, li-pos are way better! HOWEVER, I really like the new A123 system. 4600 mAh, voltage digitally adjustable from 6.6v to 10.8v, and are fully charged in 15 minutes. THESE are the future.

I sure know which is the most popular! Just look at how many post with nitro and how many with electric! I have both and they all have problems and break. I do prefer my nitro. Electric just do not have any soul.

I should mention when I originally got into this hobby it was 1983. Me and my friends that I got into it together with also felt that cars should have Engines, not electric motors and back then you couldn't take electric too seriously. But as we raced we found out that the club was doing 1/12 electric carpet racing indoors in the winter. We ran 4 cell cars. I found electrics to be a pain in the butt to keep running. Cleaning commutators, peaking battries, discharging batteies, changing battery packs, etc. I always looked forward to the spring again so I could run nitro. They were more reliable and way faster. First of all the track was way bigger and you could get to much higher top speed. We had a main straight that you could blast down at top speed at, even when 2 speeds and AWD came out. Just fuel them up, start them up and race. Of course I went through more tires. I was last racing a 1/8 Serpent Excel in those good old days.

So I had been out of the hobby for 14 yrs. I got back in last spring and not quite as deep as I used to be. So now I just do 1/10 off road with a Losi XXX-NT AD2. It is the only RC car I have now. I went straight back into nitro. No problems with it at all. I broke the engine in and I was ready to race. Tweak the carb 1/16 of a turn in or out is the only tweaking required. I don't know a thing about Lipo batteries. They only had NiCads when I raced. The best they reached were the 1400 Mah capacity.

i have to agree with most people here about nitro being funner.elects are still a blast but im a jumper so that basically takes away me liking elects, imo,to the people who think elects are always going to be faster, look at the nitro 4-tec 3.3 70+ try making a electric go that fast for the same price, there fun to drive tho you really dont drive you just gas it and hope a wall dont jump in front of you lol.this is just my opinion and experiences.

I myself prefer Nitro because I actually like the maintenance and tuning that you have to go through to keep it running strong. They sound and smell way better, too, haha. Elect. is still very good though, I've seen them run with us and they are awesome. JMO, nitro FTW!!

I've owned plenty, I prefer elec because they don't BS about speeds and I don't have to shell out $30 for fuel. Nitro is fun too, I prefer elec. Same hassle, same down time.

Why would own plenty of 3.3 Traxxas 4-Tec's? By the way RCCA clocked it at 72mph.

I was speaking in general, not that kit.

Was it clocked out of the box? The LHS near me always tries to duplicate that stuff and it never happens to RTR's out of the box. I'll believe real life before I believe any magazine specs. They know who signs the check man.

They all have their pros and cons. True with electric you do not have to buy fuel but how much do you have to spend on batteries and chargers to run continues all day?

well if your gonna talk about how much were spending on running nitros and electrics, we'll have to delve into the economics of it... what with fuel for the nitro and batteries for electric... basically your paying for runtime
with nitro, the more time you spend running it, the more fuel and the more money you spend... with electrics, you pay for how long you will be able to run each time, assuming you run it within the time that your battery can hold up then there will be a point where nitro is equally as expensive as electric but why do we care arent we all in this for the fun of it

well, i have my own impression of nitro... there was this guy i saw one day with a 1/10 or 1/8 nitro monster truck , cant really tell, i thought they were mowing the grass....

he mustve spent most of his time just getting the engine to keep running, his steering wasnt even straight and he didnt even bring a body with him , he was just buzzing up and down the parking lot trying to track a straight line, back then i didnt own my mlst so his truck looked kinda fast to me, he didnt sound like he gave it full throttle very often while he was running ,probably cuz of that steering or maybe hes still breaking the engine in or something...

at the end of the day , the last thing i remembered was him trying to start his engine , pull pull pull pull pull pull and just cough, wheeze, silence, then pull pull pull again... granted, it was quite a chilly day , but man that must suck to have to stand out there in the cold alternating between twiddling needles with your almost numb figers and getting an upper body workout...

but while he had it running it looked kinda impressive, there were some guys who were cheering him or maybe they were his friends , this chunk of monster truck rolling down the street like that , the noise just added to the experience of it all but personally the noise is not my kinda thing even if everyone who doesnt know what is inside my electric truck is gonna think its a 6 year old's toy, hand over the transmitter to someone who hasnt driven it before and they never fail to get startled by how quick the truck is, watch it go offroad and its clear that this isnt just a cheap toy anymore

I like both and own both but electric is the future. Nitro motors are a mechanical thing, we've gone about as far as we can go with it. However, electric with rapidly improving battery technology we've just begun. Try a 6000mah battery the size of a credit card weighing 1 ounce....it's coming. Brushless motors keep getting better. Electric is already faster but what about an electric with much more power that weighs half of it's nitro counterpart. You just can't compare the two.

A normal 3200 NiMh stick pack weighs 14 ounces, it's lipo counterpart weighs 6.6 ounces. I put my 6 ounce lipo in my brushless XXXT and I'm jumping triples that a nitro 1/10th scales can't jump. If they had more of a run at it they could but there's not much room out of the turn at our track. Electric has instant punch and it doesn't have to move the weight. Just a few years ago 1500 mah NiCd was about it. Electrics have progressed at a blistering pace.

I love both but nitros will soon be outdated. Actually I'm a nitro guy that just had to face the facts, the jury is in, that's just the way it is.

Very well put, Just exactly what I think too. At first all I wanted to run was nitro, because like you I am a nitro fan myself. I love the noise, the smoke, the smell, and how the fumes from the pipe can take your breath if you are in front of it too long. I love nitro, BUT I got tired of getting my rear handed to me everytime I was racing, and an electric showed up. I had to face the facts also. Now I am FAAASSSSSTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!![:@]
