Hey Rick

I started the Sig 57 build 12/15/06 and I had to hold off a few days for xmass, next week I'm going to paint it !!

If I can do a build in that time, you got until May ! over 3 1/2 months

I have to build the MTI cat by then too!

well I started the engines today " loud " I was surprised how loud they are!

They started right up, just a few pumps of each primer, three pulles and fired up.

I only let them for run 30 seconds.

Could not test run today, hoping this week. Let you know !

The hull is apache styled. Aeromarine introduced it in recent years as a slightly more modern look to their 56" apache. I believe the hull is the same as the apache.

Steve. A few observations.
1. The RCM and MH$ "Z" drives are limited to 70mm diameter props which are too small.
2. If you were able to get a larger prop on the drive I am not confident the drive will last long under the 9+hp coming from that motor (Neither RCM or MH$ drives are designed for such power).
3. The collet looks like a round cable collet (not a square collet). If you are not using a square ferrule in the collet you MUST. The cable must be able to shrink under load. If it can not it will overload the bearings in the motor and/or drive. You will also have difficulty turning the drive (especially under load) as the cable cannot slide. If you are using a square cable / collet - disregard

Winter project from last winter I will finish this winter.

Thanks for the heads up Matt, it's a square collet .
I know the RCM drive is a problem with inlines, I will take care running it .

I love the Z drive look !
I put a lot of time into this build. If the drive brakes I will fix it .
I have two more RCM drives as backup's and a few spare gears.
Last year I helped a guy build a Areomarine 56" Apache inlines and RCM drive .
He has 20 to 30 hours of run time on the boat now and did not brake the drive yet. Maybe I should not say that !!!

I guess we will find out in the spring !

So, I am curious.. This thread is old. How did the drive end up holding up under the power of the inlines?

Hi Tom

I sold the Signature to a friend that lives upstate NY. He has about 10 hours on the drive and is still working so far.
We all know it will brake in time, but it looks good on the back of the hull !

This boat was ( not ) built for racing , fun run boat and show !

Steve
