As you push back on the release collar it pushes the clamping teeth back and up away from the tube. Scott

No, when the blue collar is depressed, the locking barbs are deflected outwards thereby releasing. They appear to be kind of a Bellvue washer/spring and normally grip the tubing until released by pressure on the blue collar.
