RE: Fei Bao 339 arrived
Radio install almost complete. I am installing the new JR 2.4 using my new 9303. You can barely see the remote antenna mounted in the top of the windshield in the 3rd pic, and the second remote is attached to a balsa block on top of the bypass intake in the 2nd pic.

I take it that you are not intending to install the scale cockpit. It will not fit with your current front tray configuration. If you want to fit the cockpit you will need to lower the tray by around 1" and move the UAT someplace else.
Best regards
John

John,
I'm not to concerned with the scale cockpit, just trying to put everything as far forward as possible to keep the nose weight at a minimum. I'll put a sub floor in to tidy things up....
thanks for the observation......
cheers,

RE: Fei Bao 339 arrived
OK, I CC'd the tanks myself....here is what the Skymaster tanks hold ( I bet the FB tanks are about the same).....
The two lower tanks hold 1650cc each, the top main tank holds 2150cc for a total of 5400cc's. Based on the Rhino's average burn of 14.5 oz/minute this will result in about a 12.5 minute range until all tanks ae dry.
Just thought you would want to know.....

WOW! A lot more 339's in the states than I first thought....
I have mine on the way from Sky Master now, I am going to do a Red Bull Sport scheme on mine...
Looks like lots of good experience with this jet on this thread so let me ask some questions...
Where are you guys setting the CG?
What servos you using for:
Elevator
Aileron
Rudder
Flaps
What method are you using to sequence gear doors?
Smoke on the wing tip, how are you accomplishing this?
Air connections to the wing, what method are you using to make these connections?
Any build pictures or pictures of gear doors, internals or wing fittings would be very helpful.
Thanks guys! I am excited to join the 339 crew!

If you are putting a 160 size turbine in your 339 I would buy a Skymasters 160 size tailpipe. In my experience the one supplied by Feibao is not big enough for a 160 and also it does not have a bellmouth.
Best regards

I am actually following your example and plan a Wren XL for it. Do I still need the bigger tailpipe? I am thinking about the Tamjets one.....better build!!!

The build has been kinda slow the last couple of weeks, as I've switched gears and resumed work on this....this model will receive a pair of the new Wren 44 turboprop motors. There is a build thread over in the Giant scale forum.

If you are using the Wren I would go with the Wren tailpipe if it is available, it will be specifically designed for the XL and thay should be able to make you one to the length you require. My Feibao tailpipe distorted quite a bit when I had a hot start at the WJM. The Skymaster 339's tailpipes that I looked at were larger diameter than the Feibao.

There is now a Wren tailpipe for the XL200. Made to the same specs as our other pipes - single walled with extractor ring, tapered first section to give more thrust, 620mm long (longer on request). Price 80GBP including post.

Hi Sara,
I thought the Wren pipe has a standard length of 62cm, I didn't know that we can request longer ones. This is super news!!

Chris

RE: Fei Bao 339 arrived
Yes, we can make them to any length, Steve (Expert Exhaust Engineer) just adds extra sections. The real restriction is the postal service, who don't accept parcels longer than 1 metre.

I placed an order last Friday with Sara for the XL which will power my MB339 and this morning I was pleasanly surprised when I opened the box (not for the engine!!!)
It took the box only three!!! weekdays to arrive, as if the postman knew he had to supply me with freshly baked cakes

RE: Fei Bao 339 arrived
Thats too bad...I am working my way through the SkyMaster version and have noted the Fei Bao 339 issues with great interest. I am sure that even the ARF Plus version I have will end up needed nose ballast. I have looked at the physical structure forward of the wing spar and it looks very strong, however if I am going to have to add weight anyway I might as well make it useful so i will be laminating in some carbon tow along with additional wood in some bulkhead areas.
I have had enough airframes in my life to tell that this is going to be one hell of a great flying bird. I am about a month out from paint and I can't wait to get daylight under the gear!
Hope you find a suitable alternative for your 339 project, have you considered the SM version? I am very happy with mine!
